Electric Power Steering

I want to add electric power steering to my car.

I think there are just two ways to do this: 1) a powered column and 2) a power steering rack with an electric pump.

Has anyone experience of either or both of these systems? What are the pros and cons of each option?

If anyone knows the current typically drawn by a pump (say Peugeout 106) and a column (say a Fiat one) that would also be useful.

Thanks

What car are you running?

my saxo has eletcric power steeringon it. the orignal one had packed up when I bought it so got it changed.
I'm able to turn it on or off independently from the rest of the car.

the MGF has leccy PAS - don't know exactly how it works, but IIRC it has a 50 amp fuse, and can still be driven OK with the fuse removed.

One of the most common conversion is using the Corsa / Astra / Zafira unit. I've seen them in all sorts of cars. It's a powered column.

If you can get one from a newer car, or brand new if you're flush.

Otherwise, buy a Bullworker!

Two reasons:

1) 270 degrees lock to lock

2) significant downforce
