The Focus Ford must be the Focus-Ford Mk IV 1962 formula junior. When FJ was replaced by F2/F3 in 1964, the Swedish FJ championship was continued as a F2 championship allowing cars under the previous FJ regulations to run unaltered. The Focus Mk IV was originally built for and raced by Örjan Atterberg, but he had a fatal accident with the car in Helsinki in 1963. The car was then raced by P-O Zetterström in the Swedish "F2" championship from 1964 onwards.

The car now resides in Norway and we will hopefully see it back in historic racing this season.

Focus did build another single seater after that for Formula 3, but to my knowledge it was never completed in period although it has now got FIA papers and appear now and then equipped with a body looking somewhat like a BT21. Actually AB Sportscars in Stockholm, who manufactured the Focus cars, used the frame of the new car as a storage shelf.

PS did either the Conrero F2 or the BWA-Lancia ever appear? Wasn't the Lova-DKW an FJnr car?

I think you mean the pair of BT10-based LDS; one fitted with a 1600cc twin-cam and one with a 2-litre Climax. This is South Africa so they were just racing cars, nothing as specific as a F2. And "Mk 3" or "Mk 5" is a designation that was applied later by historians, not by the builder.

The first one was probably built with a view to running in the Gold Star category for 1600cc engines that was introduced after South African F1 moved to 3000cc but that's pure speculation.

The Lova DKW was in fact a belgian car and already totally outpaced in 1961, was entered in 1965 at Grand Prix des Frontières by Roger Beguint, a garagist.

It was a sort of "youth sin" before I got involved into something else; the data is unchanged for at least 10 years and might contain errors. I intended it for personal use only but someone convinced me that it would be of use for some of you out there...

thank you, there is plenty of information to keep me going.
I am 1/3rd way through the book. Just written and prepared to print the 1964 season. Then adding details of all the cars that took part in the F2 races.
To bring that to life I am collecting data and of course images.
So thanks for your kind help

You have mentioned the Lova. I am trying to research the same car. have you had any luck? I think I have been able to place it on a grid in rouven in 64. Would love to hear something..

Hi Kevin,

This is what I believe it to be so far !! It started life as a front wheel drive formula junior and was useless. So got converted to a rear wheel drive with a DKW works engine.

There were only 10 frames produced and 2 of those were destroyed in a fire. I know the the chassis number on the car that we have is number 4. I also know that the lova dkw featured in the German and French fj races over a number of years between 60 and 64 with the drivers Willy Vroomen and jean claude Franck. It looks like Willy Vroomen owned the racing team. It then appeared in F3 spec in 65 and 66. Now after that its vanished into the mystery of time, until now. It will be back, maybe not in the race circuit and actively racing but certainly in the paddock of the meets..
