Subway Fresh 500

On Saturday night, the NASCAR Nextel Cup gets moves to Phoenix International Raceway for the Subway Fresh 500. This would be the first night race of the 2006 season. Jimmie Johnson holds a slim 15-point lead over Matt Kenseth in the driver’s standing. In two of the last three races, he finished outside the top 10 to allow his competitors to close the gap. Kasey Kahne, Mark Martin and defending champion Tony Stewart are also giving chase.

I didn't get to watch the race last night, but good job to Harvick and RCR on getting their first win in over a year. Good job to Bobby Labonte on getting another top-10 and inching further up in points. The #43 already has three top-10's and a top-5 which is the sum of what they earned in the previous two or three seasons.

Too bad for Leffler in the Busch race, he was looking pretty good, a penalty for Bowyer was a bit harsh though

I followed PT to this series and started watching him in Nascar, but I find myself looking more for when the Nextel Cup races are on - and have just started watching them. The racer who caught my eye is Kyle Petty - I liked the way he handled his bike from what I saw of him riding on tv; and I really liked the way his eyes smiled when he talked about rides for charity. After watching this race (well actually, I only watch the last one-half of these races) I thought I heard the announcer say he ran out of gas - did he?
