2025 FIA F2 Season

First race weekend in 2 weeks supporting the Australian GP.

I was surprised Victor Martins re-signed with ART, especially after their cock ups last year. However, if they have truly got to grips with the car now, he really should be a title contender.

Eyes will be on Lindblad, Beganovic, Mini et al.

Looks like a strong field, overall with some rookie/rookie 'ish' hotshots up against some solid series returnees.

Who, what should people be looking out for this year?

el_cat should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
I’ll be interested to see how Duerksen gets on this year.

His performances in 2024 were such a bolt out of the blue I half expected him to get DQ’d for some kind of performance irregularity. It will be interesting to see if he can back up his end of season form with a proper title push this season. Or if in fact AIX found something with their setup that the others will be able to converge upon

I find it hard to really work out whos good and who isnt these days because it all seems very tyre & DRS dependent. Look at Prema from last season. Both drivers graduated to F1 this year but looked average multiple times in F2 last season.

What is going on with Formula 2?
Firstly, there seems to be a technical problem with random power cuts happening to the cars that F2 dont seem to be able to solve.... Yet (An extra 15 minute "warm up" session has been scheduled during the Aus GP weekend to see if its fixed)

Secondly, 3 teams were found to be running illegal air pressure sensors during testing to guage aero loads - Rodin, Trident, DAMS.

"The FIA has penalised all three teams; each was fined €10,000 per car that had the sensor fitted, while the drivers of those cars will each serve 10-place grid penalties in the two F2 races in Australia this weekend."

We now have the situation where Verschoors mechanics were working on his car as the grid was due to leave for the formation lap so the whole start was aborted. Now a 10 minute delay and heavy heavy rain... Verschoor will have to start from pitlane or take a drive through penalty.

So they did half a formation lap and decided to red flag it, every man and his errr duck could tell you it was too heavy, so why even bother setting off from the grid?
For such an "elite" sport, the decisions that get made are baffling sometimes.

Difficult to take much from a one race weekend.

Lots of incidents and a few fancied runners not really in contention.

On to the next round!
