03 Nations Cup

When I was looking at 10/10s just 2day i cringed when all there was in the first 10 threads, was 5 litre this, v8 tank this. So i thought id be proactive try to get some life back into this forum. Thoughts crossed to the Nations Cup series this year. New machines, new rules and hopefully a close and exciting championship this year. So who does everyone feel will be the pace setter for this weekends GP races, and for the rest of this season.
The Monaro is intimadating, howvever I believe that the revamped Lamborghini Team will be extremely fast this season and Stokell has a big opportunity to take this years championship. Then theres Bowe in the 360 GT which will fast and also look great, new Porsche 911 RS for Martin Wagg and Cirtek for sadly just this weekend. Also a TVR for Kosi Kamoto(I have no idea of his last nam, that was a guess) should be quite entertaining. Anyone elses thoughts ?

DRT
I think the PROCAR series is going to produce some great racing and I'm looking forward to it coming to Wakefield and Oran Parks.
Not only the NC cars but the GTP and Proddies with the tall swinging v8brutes what a show and also having Channel 7 on board is great for the series. The racing here can be far better than the taxi's and having so many manufactures in it is a blessing as you don't have to look at only TWO.

The driver you were referring to is Kosi Kalaitzidis and he should be a threat in that TVR Chemira GT.

Bowe is the best driver in the field, so if the car's good enough he'll win.

Stokall is just as good in my opinion. Especially with the Lamborghini running unrestricted this season, he and Bowe could set the pace.

The Monaro, very heavy, parity adjusted, won't suit every track, so we'll see.

Geoff Morgan is entered in the Viper for the AGP and round 1 at Adelaide as well, so i guess he has committed to both NC and Carrera Cup.

Interesting that Jim Richards has entered round 1 at Adelaide in Group 2 in his Porsche GT3 Cup Car.

Martin Wagg seems to be the only Porsche 996 GT3RS entered for Adelaide. There are something like 3 or four other GT3RS's in the country, why aren't they racing (like PHR's?)

How do we think Sam Newman will go in the 2nd factory Lamboghini?

I wonder who is picking up the tab at TLA for Sam's drive... Budweiser was a major supporter of Newman's at Prancing Horse.. and they are still on the Bowe Falcon so I cant see them moved?

Or is Crazy John really crazy enuff to give Sammy a $800,000 Lambo to smash?

Would Sam be a pay driver of some description? How many 'free' rides did PHR give away?

Anyhow, the entry list for the AGP is fairly good, but it was that way last year too- I hope they can keep it up for the rest of the year.

On other PROCAR things, it looks like Allan Grice will lead a two car team with Adam Brand..

Would the Grice- Brand team be in V8 Brutes.

Race one today at the Aussie GP
Peter Brock Won from D. Russell and the Sam Newman running third.
On channel 10 news they showed about 5 seconds of the race but Stokell looked like getting punted off the track by a GT Performance Car

Yeah caught that, looked pretty nasty for the Lambo who from what they were saying was leading at the time ?

Might have to see if there's any news on the PROCAR site.

Accorfing to The Australian GP Site:
Quote:
However, Stokell’s car was crashed out of the lead by TVR Chimera driver Kosi Kalaitzidis as the leaders lapped slower cars and Stokell was forced to retire the Lamborghini, leaving a delighted D’Arcy Russell to take a hard-earned second place in his Dodge Viper.
Sounds like it may have been a good race...I hope we'll eventually see it on Channel 7.

Conspiracy theory:

Channel 10 don't get on with Procar. Channel 10's friday telecast of the AGP was originally announced to run to 4.30pm. Nations Cup race is at 4pm, and the telecast is changed to finish at 4pm and a probable re-run of Totally Wild put on instead.

All the other Nations Cup races are outside the telecast times. I'm not sure we'll get to see it, FOCA own all the footage being filmed and charge a hefty price for something to be shown outside of the GP weekend, unless Procar struck a deal with the AGP Corporation.

Channel 10 keep boasting they have 16 hours of coverage over the 3 days.

Let's think about that:
F1 Qual: 1-2 Hours
3 x V8 Sprint Races : 2 Hours (if that)
Actual GP 1.5 - 2 Hours

At a quick glance not including F1 practise sessions we are looking at 6 hours of racing and 10 hours of fluff pieces !

Don't forget about all the ads - about 15mins per hour, so that's about 4 hours worth of ads during the 16 hours of coverage.

I have to agree. One of the few occasions i was glad to hear that Bill Woods would commentate was in Shaw's place on the Coast last year.
