Sydney Media for EC!!!!
I almost fell off my chair this morning... I was reading the Daily Telegraph & they have an 8 page V8 supercar lift out!!! I can't speak for other states, but Sydney news paper largely ignore V8 supercars. So to get an 8 page lift out is fantastic!!!!! Has TC's lobbing finally paid off???
Good work Daily Telegraph!!! Last edited by Joe5619; 26 Nov 2003 at 22:05. |

It's Victorian equivalent, the Herald Sun, had no such lift-out. We got an Ambrose vs Murphy article, with a picture of them in an arm wrestle pose, as well an article on Skaife, who is looking towards 2004 despite a slim chance of winning the championship at EC - though he still considers himself a chance for a good result on the weekend. A single page worth, the rest of the space taken up by an F1 article covering the activities of Courtney, Briscoe and Nguyen. Typical for this paper, which devoted two following pages to the AFL and the trade/draft stuff.

Well brace yourself folks as I witnessed something that I never thought I would see in my life.
Both ,yes both Channels 7 and 9 featured the V8's on their respective morning breakfast shows.Murf and Ambrose with a couple of show cars in the TCN carppark and Denya doing the weather live at EC,doing pitstop comps with LSR and with a HRT and DJR car out on the main straight TC said it was going to be big and a demonstration of how it can be done and full marks for striking the first blow.Denya was rattling off ticket prices the free ice cream line and promoting both Sat and Sundays event whilst Steve Leamna taked of the championship, showed fottage of both driver and discussed the qualifying system. Well Done Last edited by Onlooker; 26 Nov 2003 at 22:45. |

It is amazing what some of the $400m that TC got goes when he decides to spend some of it on decent PR

But this is an AVESCO event remember, the other ones were run by International Money Grabbers or local promoters. TC has a vested interest in making sure it works!

Shame that so called "Pre-race build up" didn't happen, including the street parade! Got here a day early for nothing!

Pity they seem to be screwing over all other media nominations for the event. Obviously they only want certain sources to promote the event.
Before anyone gets any quirky ideas, I'm not talking from personal experience but relaying a comment from a media person that has been in the industry for 15+ yrs, who get media access to every Sydney round (and the other ones that are attended) and after a few weeks of angst was basically told "we don't need you" Shame, really .... the negative publicity will go on for a long time |

We had a article in the Qld Sunday Mail on Marcus then on Tue. & Wed. on the Qld 10 news I don't know they were in other states. Even a article in local paper mid-week(bit scary) then seeing murph & Marcus on Ch9 Today show, Steve whats his name I don't think he had a idea what he was talking about, then seeing Grant Denyer pushing it hard on
7 Sunrise. Thats the most coverage in one week I have ever seen. |

Unless AVESCO decide to promote every round of the series, whatever happens this weekend organisation wise will make bugger all affect on what any other promoters do.
We already know TC's quote's come sunday night, record crowds, monster TV ratings and big profits etc etc.....Should i bother asking why TC has talked about this years finale ever since it was announced much more than any other season final in the past few years? Should be a good show though, just a pity it's at Eastern Creek.... |

Shouldn't it be up to the promoters to spend the big dollars and promote their own races? I agree that AVESCO should do their bit, but if individual tracks want lots of people to turn up, then they can go out and get them. What was stopping the ARDC or Oran Park from putting in an 8 page spread in the paper?

There was another good coverage in this mornings The Courier Mail up here, it's amazing the coverage the series can get when TC wants it.

But if you spend the money you get the punters through the gates... or would they simply be going to this effort to show everyone up? Does it cost anything to get on Today or Sunrise?

Today on the otherhand usually request a $5000 fee to cover travel etc, even if they have a crew in town. Both will help out charitable causes for fre if possible. |

Sunrise also has a $5000 fee for event/site promo. GD would certainly be helping the motor sport (sorry Motorbusiness) cause by getting airtime at the right time.

It doesn't matter if the mass media coverage is paid for, it is worth it. It came to my attention recently that the Nag Racing form guides and coverage in the papers is subsidised by Tabcorp and the NSW TAB.
If TC has paid for the lift out or other coverage then great. Keep it up. |
