PC spec advice
What will give a PC the biggest performance boost, when running driving sims such as GTR.
An increase in memory from 1024mb to 2048mb, or a proccessor upgrade from an AMD Athlon 64 4000+ to an AMD Athlon FX 55. hrug: |

I'm not an expert here at all (he says in advance of the experts piling in), but my understanding is that for (more) modern sims like GTR, more (and better quality) RAM will serve you better, whereas an older SIM like GPL, which relies more heavily on processing power than RAM, will benefit from a CPU boost.
Having said that, a meg of RAM is more than enough to run GTR well. Mine (now) runs absolutely solidly on half that (although I may get myself a present of a couple of new sticks for Xmas). As to the Athlons, I know nothing about them, I'm a P4 man....... (sadly Intel and not Ferrari.... ) Last edited by Aysedasi; 30 Nov 2004 at 08:15. |

For demanding pc games like GTR and Doom 3, RAM and video card are the most important parts where you'll have to invest in, next in line is the CPU.
In your case the upgrade in RAM would have more effect than a mere upgrade from a 64 4000+ to an Fx55. |

Btw JAG, would you give away your old processor or ram sticks since you don't need 'em anymore?

I don't have anything to give away, sorry.
I was looking at a basic £1000 gaming PC and there are a number of upgrade options. I chose the best grapics card avaialable, and was wondering whether more RAM or a slight CPU upgrade would be better value for money. |
