Did JPM say this before or after ended up 32nd, 1.2 secs of the pace , at the back of the grid on a road course today?

Great drive it was, too. He even told Chip Ganassi at one point to shutup so he could concentrate...
32nd to First, for his first win at the Cup level - after only 16 races. |

Sounds like it was a great race. Unfortunately I don't think it was shown in the UK.
I'll miss Montoya being in F1 more than I'll ever miss M.Schumacher. |

Well, NASCAR is specialised.
I wouldn't expect a NASCAR guy to come over to Europe and blow the doors off the F1 fraternity (with the possible exception of Jeff Gordon, who could have been something), and I wouldn't expect a European racer to go to stockcars and just somehow master the ovals and win right off the bat. Even the road course ringers, distinguished guys like Ron Fellows for example, rarely win an event. And as for other topline drivers, Paul Tracy has tried NASCAR and made a total fruit of himself in the process. Anyhow, I will drop this now, otherwise we'll all be shifted off to our NASCAR dungeon down the page. |

Montoya deserved the win, he raced smart & played his cards right, & as for all this other rubbish regarding the shamefull comments putting him down, could someone remind me as to just what it was he did wrong.
He made an informed statement based on current & prior knowledge of the situation ( well most certainly more informed than anyone on here ) & as he has always done, told it how it is, no crap, no jargon, just the straight truth, which inevitably, will always upset the un-informed....Lmao |

There were some nice overtaking moves from Chip's 42 car too. It was more entertained than pit-overtaking, IMHO. |

Gracias Juan
It was such a joy to be able to witness Juan's maiden Nextel win - and what a win it was!
I have been following Juan but only unfortunately when he started his F1 stint. I missed all the Cart and Indy 500 thrillers. Juan does indeed have a knack to come with great wins, he brakes or starts new records and he has some very timely wins like his last win for Williams on his last race driving for Sir Frank Williams. I am thrilled to see him do good and I hope that the NASCAR crowd will eventually embrace him. Right now he is the new "overly taunted and too highly rated" kid in the playground. For some, his coming to the NASCAR family is an unwelcomed invasion. I hope they learn to enjoy the pleasure of having JPM in the NASCAR circuit. I know that I, as are many of you, am enjoying the ride. |

Robby Gordon was not quick during the final third of the race. He lost the lead before the final pit stops. He was not going to win under any scenario given his loss of speed at the end of the race.

And Robby gordon would have smacked Juan off the road if he thought it'd work...
...I'm serious, Watkins last year. |

Yeah that Ku. Busch / R. Gordon finish in the Busch series last year at Watkins Glen was fun to watch.

It was a very good win from 32nd.. He drove very well. To beat Mcmurray or whoever it was who ran out of fuel, the pass was amazing and then to go on and just save enough fuel. Sure it was a road course win but that doesn't take away the fact that he won a Cup race. Hopefully he can win an oval if not Watkins glen..to give him a 3rd road course win after the win at Mexico City in the Busch series.

For some fans (like me), a win at Infineon as as good as a win on a cookie cutter. It's still a notch in the "W" column, and they don't put asterisks for road course wins. Juan personally has a goal to get an oval win. I hope that now he's fired up to know that he can win a NASCAR race (now without wrecking a guy!), that he can keep the pace with these guys, and that an oval win can be within his grasp. And even if not now, he's got to realize that with all of his F3000, CART, Indy 500 and F1 experience and successes, he's still a rookie. And it's not surprising if a driver doesn't win his rookie season. Sure guys like Stewart and Hamlin set the bar immensly high for rookie seasons, but it's not like every rookie is sitting on pole and finishing in the top 5 week-in, week-out. Personally, if he doesn't get an oval win this year, I don't blame him. He's still got a Cup race win, and that's what matters. |

And he's running in a Ganassi car... which, sadly, isn't a top-line ride either. He's doing okay. The fact that there's so many 'haters' at the track each week is something he should be proud of - they obviously see him as a threat.

2) Juan's handled his own teammate being absolutely furious with him. He can handle some shmuck that's annoyed that he tried to make it 3-wide by lap 2. |

Ok guys, just because it says Bud on the car doesn't mean there is Bud in the car.
Ok guys, just because he won a road race doesn't mean that an oval win is imminent. He is still sitting in 22nd place in points. One point. The road racing specialists for the most part only run the 2 races a year. Even Boris doesn't run a full schedule. It is very difficult for a part timer to win in Nascar. One more point. Ganassi doesn't field top cars like HMS or Gibbs, however, his cars are at least mid pack cars and not the bottom third in quality. |

No, an oval win is far away. However, who cares. Nobody said it would be easy.
I'm just glad an F1 driver had the idea to try it out. And a road course win is better than no win I would say. I'll be honest, I expected no wins all year and a finish in the bottom of the top 20 in the points. Of course, the Gatorades at Daytona raised hopes I think and some good qualifying efforts. But it's all about getting it right for the distance. I think that will take a lot of time. *cue comments that the win was somehow all down to luck* |
