Nissan 370Z GT2

While checking out some images from 2010 Goodwood, I saw a picture of a Nissan 370Z GT2? Anybody know anything more about this?

Cheers

I think RJN also tried their hand on a GT3 in 2006 - so really, it could be anything between GT2/3/4

Have to agree that looks way too tame to be a GT2 car or even a test bed. Does GT4 allow for rear wings? It feels to me that this was a driving school or some other driving experience type place's car. Would be nice to see Nissan develop a GT2 car to go along with the GT-R GT1 but how many people would rip it like the M3 for not really being a GT car?

This car was an RJN GT4 car that was then upgraded for GT Academy and used at the Dubai 24 hour as part of the GT Academy Prize drive

Bingo. Johnny Herbert was one of the drivers along with the GT Academy winner. Can't remember how they finished though.

A 370z fits the GT bill perfectly.

Murphy reported that Nissan has considered a North American GT program but has decided against it for 2011. No mention of which model or series or class.

Interesting find HD. I'd like to think that Murphy's wrong on this one. A Z car would look good out there.

The GTR is waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too huge.

I hate it in GT1, it looks so out of place and I can only imagine what it must be like for the guys/girls in the other cars when following it.

dj4monie is heading for a stewards' enquiry!
If he's talking about GTR the game in GTR2 RJN's GT2 spec Nissan 350 is in the game and it was painfully slow at the one or two races I remember it at, I think this was 2006.

Much like Ford abandoned its Mustang FR500 GT2 effort, it would have likely taken more money than either company (RJN is supported by Nissan UK, not Nissan and Nismo) wanted to spend on these efforts to be competitive.

I know the changes made to the Marc VDS Mustang (IRS) might allowed it to become a GT2 car now, but I'm still not sure about the Nissan 370Z. I'm sure it can be done, but for this is to happen it needs to be a top down effort involving Nismo Japan or Nismo USA.

What kind changes are those to the Mustang? Do you know?

Cheers

The Marc VDS Mustang as far as I can tell is based on the new 2011 bodywork, but has a Independent Rear Suspension developed and designed at Mulitimatic in Canada. It also looks like the front suspension was redesigned as well.

The GT-R being referenenced, is not the game, rather the car.

Agree with johntt. Z cars are better for lower GT classes.

Well IRS is not allowed in the Mustang GT if you ever wants it to run Le Mans, just look at the BMW M3's.

370Z can't be made into a GT2 car, pure and simple. Engine is already too stretched so you could never get power to compete with current GT2's and GT2 rules specify engine swaps not allowed I believe??? Similarly I think the GTR would be precluded because of it's motor/4wd etc so Nissan/NISMO can only be considering a prototype program... and there was a NISMO representative at the last ACO constructors meeting supposedly...

As for the "370Z GT2" at Goodwood... less said about that the better... dogs dinner of parts left over from the remains of the old 350Z GT2 car hung on a GT4 car of some maturity... but someone likes to pretend it's a GT2 car...

They could convert it to RWD, and turbocharged engines up to 4.0l are allowed.
