429CJ should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Dennis leaving McLaren in 2005?

On the finnish Turun Sanomat newspaper yesterday:
http://www.turunsanomat.fi/f1/?ts=1,...290,2004-03-08

Here's some quotes from the article:

-Dennis does not lead the McLaren F1 team next season
- Dennis and Mansour Ojjeh selling their major share of McLaren to Mercedes, wich now owns 40% of the team
- Ron Dennis does not retire for good - continuing to lead the McLaren's Paragon factory.

He has hinted at this in interviews, but I think he will want to get McLaren dominant again before he steps down....a task that looks like it has already been delayed.

I know he hinted that he will let his people (Whitsmart or whatever his name is) to run the 'F1 operation' more independently, but he will still stay in control.

I read in an interview with him, that before he retires, he wants to get some benefit from the new Paragon site. i don't think he'll retire just yet!

This story is nonsense, I reckon.

Ron Dennis still has lots to offer F1 - and no-one hurts more than him if McLaren performs below par.

He's a racer to the core - and a winner.

Should this happen.......
Who has the most corporate knowlege within McLaren ? Who has the most credibility with sponsors and amongst the paddock crowd ? Maybe an inevitable choice

Not credible. RD and FW will be in F1 until they drop. Ken Tyrell sold his team and expired shortly there after (dont think that he was ill when he sold it)

Actually it may be true, but if it is then we can expect McLaren as a team identity to cease to exist. it will become mercedes benz and i hold little hope for such a team.
Mercedes bought Ilmor, in effect buying the technological wisdom that came with it. since Paul morgans death they haven't been as strong. F1 teams need insirational people to drive the development (eg Schumacher, Todt, Brawn and Byrne thats why Ferrari is so dominant)but even then it goes in cycles and F1 does burn people out after a time. Someone new comes in and supersedes them.
Think back. Gordon Murray was superseded by John Barnard who was superseded in the 'super-designer' stakes by Adrian Newey who has since been superseded by the Brawn-Byrne partnership. Who will be the next engineering whiz?
mercedes benz simply doesnt have the internal people to run a team in the modern era the way a team has to be driven if it is to succeed. If the report is true the team will probably decline over the next few years rather then rise again. to the dominance of the 1984-1991 era

Teretonga, exactly. F1 is not about money and corperations its about people, inovation and passion.

Ford bought stewart - threw money at it and did no beter
BAR bought tyrell - same
Merc did an arm tristing buyout of illmor - not going well
Toyota - what have they got for their $1billion?

Renault seem to have done ok though this seems down to the influence of Gascoigne, Jordan did amazing things when he was with them.

Ditto.
A team of beaurocrats will never be able to replace people of the sports like Dennis & co.

Wasn't this also mentioned in an Eddie Jordan story last week - where he said one principal and one driver wouldn't be there next year ie Ron & Michael

interesting point. www.itv-f1.com had an article by 'The Mole' who hinted at the very same thing.

I thought it was pretty common knowledge that Ron is loking to retire quite soon. He spoke about it in some detail in an ITV feature last year.

Or, do you get to choose when your team is at the top?

Plenty of people have assumed that would be the case but have had to eat 'humble pie' and quit when they are on a downward spiral.

Martin Whitmarsh is virtually top man at McLaren already. If the rumours are true (and remember it's "if" at the moment and Ron's not said anything else yet), then I shall miss him.
