Carroll Shelby and the Ford Capri

Came across a little curiosity in a race programme from 1981 today.

An entry in the British Saloon Car Championship for Wayne Wainwright in a Ford Capri 3-litre.

The intriguing thing was, the entrant is listed as Carroll Shelby (California). Can anyone throw any light on this for me, please, as I never heard of this one before.....!

SL should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
No nor can I.

All I can think is that the Shelby workshop helped in the engine tuning. By 81 Shelby was in retirment.
