yes the race was good but almost all drivers started the final lap with 0.3-0.4% of battery remaining and ended the race with 0%, evans at example had to slow down during the last lap and lost a lot of positions. I keep on thinking that races should be reduced to 40 minutes or at least 45 minutes overall without the extra lap... there is really a thin line between a good race and a "valencia".
FE isn't endurance, also motoGP race are about 40-42 minutes long otherwise bikes would go out of fuel.

You do realise the races are exactly that long for exactly that reason?

The drivers constantly having to balance between conserving and taking a bit more life out of the battery to race a rival is what makes these races so entertaining, as is all the "gimmicks" such as Attack Mode and Fan Boost looking good at first, but then you realise they use up more power more quickly so again need a strategic mind to work out when or indeed if it best to use them

It's what makes Formula E racing so exciting, as evidenced yesterday!

Brilliant race, proper motor sport with overtaking and drama from start to finish

Formula E really is the most exciting single seater catagory on the planet atm..

I'm well aware of this but this can't deny other "valencia" may happen again despite engineers and drivers best efforts, I just don't agree with that. At example current F1 cars de facto is a fuel consumaption formula, each car can have max 110kg of fuel inside the car and it's up to the driver manage it during the race, despite this (unless done intentionally) is basically virtually impossible to remain out of fuel during the race or finish the race with 0.1-0.3% of fuel inside the car...
I just think there is no need to make races 45m+1extra lap long just to see who can finish the race with no power left in battery... it's an opinion of mine at least.

Pretty sure Valencia was down to the guy in race control who does the maths to work out how much energy to take off the teams during a SC, I'd be very doubtful if it happened again

The cars aren’t actually running out of power at the end of the race. They run out of what they are allowed to use. So it’s not actually the race length (40, 45 or 45+1 lap) being too long that is a problem, if there is a problem. Perhaps a little tweak to the calculation when there is a SC, especially one near the end?

Anyway, Monaco was good fun. There were some sneaky, some daring and some just quality moves out there.

Races are 45 minutes. Batteries are 54 kWh. They get deducted 1 kWh per minute of caution period.

Rules are correct, it's drivers and teams that spent too much energy.

Agreed. Although when the SC is later in the race the calculation could relatively have more effect on some. However, race control can override the calculation is they wish.

How much are you lot enjoying the season so far? Personally, I think it has very much been a mixed bag. Some races, such as Monaco and the first race at Rome have been absolutely fantastic, two of the best in Formula e history, and we also have an incredibly competitive grid. However, there have also been some extremely farcical moments, such as the Ad Diriyah penalties and the Valencia finish, which was very entertaining and will definitely make it into the next addition of Geoff Tibballs' 'Motorsport's strangest races,' but to be honest it will be a complete travesty if it affects the championship. It also feels as though the qualifying system has caused the grids to be mixed up a bit too much. There have also been issues surrounding safety. It hasn't been an awful season, but Formula e definitely has declined in quality since season 5, its greatest season.

My (controversial) midseason driver rankings:
1. Rene Rast
2. Sam Bird
3. Antonio Felix Da Costa
4. Mitch Evans
5. Oliver Rowland
6. Robin Frijns
7. Nick Cassidy
8. Nyck De Vries
9. Stoffel Vandoorne
10. Jean-Eric Vergne
11. Alexander Sims
12. Lucas Di Grassi
13. Norman Nato
14. Alex Lynn
15. Nico Muller
16. Edoardo Mortara
17. Jake Dennis
18. Pascal Wehrlein
19. Tom Blomqvist
20. Oliver Turvey
21. Max Gunther
22. Sergio Sette-Camara
23. Sebastien Buemi
24. Andre Lotterer

The Valencia utter shambles overshadows what has otherwise been a good season. It was an embarrassment to the sport, and rule changes need to urgently be brought in to prevent that ever happening again. .

Apart from that it has been OK. The cars worked well around Monaco, which was nice to see.

I don't see why FE needs to make urgent changes when IndyCar, NASCAR and IMSA have fuel milage issues every week, and F1 had a race where everyone forgot how to tell time and weren't able to qualify.

FE seems to have a situation where it has to be perfect at everything otherwise it's an embarrassment, and I don't understand why that is.

A very exciting race yesterday in Mexico. As a Di Grassi and Rast fan, I was very pleased with the result, although gutted for Wehrlein who completely deserved that first victory, and disappointed with Porsche for what sounds like a silly mistake in not declaring the tyres (but, again, too harsh a punishment). Hopefully, these changes to the car will allow Buemi to regain his old form, as it would be great to see him back at the front of the grid.

The wall tunnel was a bit too much in some places, especially at the exit of the attack zone.

LPP68 should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
It is weird to go to a track where there is space for run of, and then put a wall there nontheless. I would say the bumpy muddy grass of Puebla is reason enough to try not to go off the circuit.
Back to a classic track in New York this weekend. Frijns doing really well considering the track conditions in qualifying and the resulting starting grid in race 1. Cassidy must be ****ed at Vergne. First he got pushed wide in a duel for the lead. Ok, something which can happen in a fight for the lead. But then in the interview afterwards JEV says that 'Cassidy turned into him' making it not possible for JEV to turn his car in time....

Pole for Alex Lynn in race one. It would be good to see him get a win; Mahindra deserve it.
However, I would like to see the qualifying format scrapped for next year. Superpole could stay, but it's the group qualifying which is the problem. Formula e would still be massively unpredictable even without this format which is far too gimmicky.

They've really got to sort this qualifying out. To see the top drivers getting taken out race after race because of the qualifying isn't doing the series any favours.

Derwent is heading for a stewards' enquiry!
How can anyone take Formula E seriously? Why can't they race on proper circuits? They can't claim to be green as the amount of diesel used by the cranes to create and remove the hundreds of barriers, stands etc will far out weigh the actually racing cars minimal carbon creation.
As for the TV coverage. Why have an idiot game show host to present it? You can imagine the outcry if he was to host Match of the Day!

Looks like the NEC Action arena!! How can the Commentators get so “excited” by such slow racing? Haven’t seen it for years , everyone seems to be immersed in the illusion. For me it does EV cars no favours. Someone must having a massive earn out of this

Because racing on "proper" circuits is not the idea of the series. It's designed to bring racing to cities and to attract people who normally wouldn't think of going to a motor race.

The green side comes from the racing being where the people live rather than them all travelling to a circuit miles away.
