Well they must be supporting Ganassi, if they are contributing to the racing budget. On their website, Ganassi refer to Kellogs etc., as associate sponsors, so what's the deal then with Andretti Motorsport and their associate sponsors like Circle K and Butterball?

I don't see Indycar on the cusp of a sponsorship shangra-la. They need to achieve an equililibrium between keeping it fresh, avoid goofy gimmicks and accept that making huge gains in domestic popularity isn't on the cards anymore. But despite all their almost caliguan problems, year after year, they still come back and pull off good seasons. Fair dues for that.

And general fans are foolish, they think impulsively, drivers do exist in a bubble, too busy to see beyond their field of vision and the management oscillate between complacent paralysis and kneejerk paranoia.

The management is a little bit better now so they should settle down and qualify fan feedback with an understanding of fan pyschology. Aesthetics should be one of the top priorites I'm sorry. It's not a dichtomy between beauty and ugliness, it's a dichtomy between mean, muscular cars and these cars - cars that look like chubby capsized bathtubs - and particularily on road courses these are cars give a pronounced junior single seater feel. Indycar needs something the kids would be proud to put as posters on their walls. That's what's needed. And even if it is a bit of a con, they need to externally look more convincing then F1 and given how dumb most F1 cars look today - there maybe an opportunity there. Then Indycar need to communicate that raw material in their promotional campaigns to bring it all together. We'll see about these aerokits but I'm cautious rather than optimistic.

I get that Power wants to defend his craft, guard his achievements and we should certainly extend our recognition to him on those grounds. But he has to understand that contemporary Indycar is always going to be haunted by the success of presplit Indycar. It's as an inevitable as it is unfair.

Also, it's understanding uglier truths that we might not want to hear that is a prerequisite to dealing with and taking down a given problem. To solve a problem, we need to know the truth. Flattery leaves problems to fester. Unfortunately given the way life is, most truths are unpleasant truths. People should bring what they honestly believe to the table - good or bad - and then tease things out from there. But kneejerk complaining that people aren't sufficiently nice is counter productive and boring. No syrupy echo chambers please. I don't do PR for anyone. Truth is my boss.

I don't personally fear for the existence of this series. I'm philosophical about that. I fear this series will become so submerged in gimmicks in vain attempts to win popularity that isn't there, that it'll become almost worthless. F1, sportscars and particularly NASCAR are travelling down this road.

I don't hope IndyCar will become just a club series in a same way what happened to the SCCA Trans-AM series. But it is an unpleasant truth that a worldwide fan base and major audiences with races on other continents aren't exactly the direction with the current concept.

It already is worthless as the tv ratings and attendance figures are often well below other 2nd and 3rd tier series out there.

Will Powerless is obviously not going to bite the hands that feed him so will instead swill the kool aid in the hopes the party keeps going.

People equate big splashy paint jobs as big money when most of the time it is not. Often these are B2B deals, rich dad dealings, tax reduction schemes and other chicanery rather than a straight up sponsorship based the marketing viability of the series. One only has to look at what Bryan Herta is going through right now trying to get $2 million in "sponsorship" he is owed from what looks like a near non existent company that got their name painted all over the car.

As an example I remember years ago back around 2009 or so when Lotus had Dany Bahar going wild with all talk no go, the Kalkoven team was "sponsored" by Lotus and if I recall the car was in a Lotus paint scheme. People here on the forum were wetting their pants over it that millions of dollars were changing hands and this was a big sponsorship. After making some inquiries I discovered the extent of the "sponsorship" and that it was only Lotus sending over some engineers gratis to help the team. The second year a small sum of money changed hands.

Ignoring the few niche fans for a moment and whatever they want, the wider picture has to be examined of why the series is failing in the marketplace and the general public has zero interest in it.

Also all this talk about 2018 is retarded. It's years away and there might not be a 2018 for this series unless they get it together.

You have been saying this line since 2009 - good to see you are consistent.

Aleshin's clearly not coming back to Indycar this year, instead he's driving for SMP Racing in WEC LMP2. Sounds like he'd still like to come back in the future if the whole economic situation settles down.

AutoRacing1 is hearing that Luca Filippi is a possibility to pair with Ed Carpenter in the #20 Fuzzy's Vodka Chevrolet in 2015 at CFH Racing.

If so, as a conclusion, this would indicate that Briscoe and Wilson are leading candidates for full season rides since a ride that does not include the Indy 500 would probably not be near as attractive to them.

Briscoe has been closely linked to a ride on the Factory Corvette at LM24 (replacing Westbrook?), that would mean no full time ride in Indy since we know LM24 has a date clash with Indycar.

Briscoe joined the factory Chevrolet Corvette tean last season to compete in the Tudor United Sportscar Championship. He doesn't have an IndyCar drive for 2015 after being released by Chip Ganassi Racing.

It looks like Briscoe will remain with Jan Magnussen and Antonio Garcia, with whom he took GT Le Mans class honours at last weekend's Daytona 24 Hours season-opener.

Thanks for letting us know about Briscoe's probable whereabouts for the upcoming motor racing season. Looks like he is mainly looking for an Indy 500 ride with a Chevy team, as far as IndyCar is concerned.
