Right now, I've got to go with Hornish.

He finished very strong last year, after he got that Chevy Gen 2 engine. Now that he's driving with Penske, he will have all the right tools to go after the championship from the start.

I will say though, that nobody is a lock. Its going to be a very competitive series this year, with possibly 8 or 9 drivers, that are capable of winning the whole thing. I can't wait!

Tough call. the AGR guys, Penske, Ganassi, Panther (and hopefully a few more) are all going to be in the mix. If I had to choose one person though...

Sam Hornish

I've been a great fan of his from when I first got into IndyCar racing. His skill, his knack of putting the right move at the right time, just everything about him makes me consider him to be one of the best racing drivers I've seen. And now he's with Penske... one THE greatest teams in US open wheel history. I really want Sam to win the Championship and The 500 this year. Wheather or not he does, well we'll just have to wait and see.

Helio! I hope this can finally be his year! He's a great driver and I'll be cheering for him no matter what.

Surprisingly ( )I agree with GP Racer: 2003 last minute loss sounded like a third win for Hornish, provided he ran more than half a season with a dog engine.
This year he's strong since the beginning, therefore...

Of course (and fortunately) real things are always more complicated than theory, thusI expect that AGR will say something, as well as Honda and Chevy-powered teams.

sam hornish got my vote - think it is hard for scott dixon to go back to back.... sam is a class driver who would have been good in CART 2 or 3 years ago

While Sam Hornish would be an obvious candidate for the title, I think it could go to any number of contenders like Scott Dixon, Helio Castroneves and several of the AGR guys. I also see Scheckter as a 'sleeper' candidate with, if he manages to keep it off the walls, a shot at the title as well.

All in all, I think 2004 is going to produce one heckuva fight for the title

There are anything up to 10 likely candidates, and it should be a great season. It's hard to know how well Dario will do on his return, or whether Darren can match Scott. The top tip seems to be Sam though, he'll view 2003 as a comparatively wasted year (albeit one in which he further proved his brilliance) and will be gagging to get back to winning ways. Tomas Scheckter is ahrd to judge, but he really needs to stop crashing and stop being such a spoilt brat. Losing out to Taylor would be embarasing for him, but it could happen.

Umm, you are talking about Scott SHARP, right?

Well, he is my long shot favorite!

Only 2 voted for Dixon so far, which is somewhat surprising, but I think it just accounts for the tough competition he's going to face.

Thanks GP Racer!

Of course I cheer for Helio but I recognize a great driver when I see one on the track. Helio is a great one too but Hornish is the "king of ovals" like we say here in Brazil.

Helio Castroneves. He's used to Penske, unlike Hornish, and he's less inclined to get people's backs up, like Hornish. The only question mark is over the Dallara-Honda combo, and whether it can outperform the G-Force-Toyota combo Ganassi Have.

Tony Kanaan because he is Fast and this is his 2nd year in the IRL which will only help his championship bid. Plus, the Honda/Dallara combo will be the one to have, I hope!

I'm thinking Hornish will hit his stride this year and without difficulty should be at or near the top most all of the season. Of course it helps now that he's won the first race !

BTW, Team Owner....

I'm still doing my search without hints, and I think I might be getting warm....but I'll PM you when I think I have ID'ed you....

Well I just checked in to see how the poll was going. It appears it`s going to be a shoe in for Penske Eh. But it did strike me in the 300 that a certain Ganassi car was able to reel those red things in OK while running alone. Just a thought
