I missed Brands but from what I read, most of the Production class should be replaced apart from Rob Collard!

I would pick the following "unemployed":

1. Peter Cate
2. Roger Moen (coz I want to see him and Cato out there again!)
2. Simon Harrison
3. Gavin Pyper
4. Toni Ruokonen
5. Gordon Shedden

The point is to provide a stepping stone for up-and-coming drivers to show what they can do and step up into Touring class the following year.

Admittedly a successful Production driver is not guaranteed a Touring class drive, but without the BTCP, we would have a small Touring grid full of rich club racers.

Anyway I like the fact that once the Tourers have gone past, we have the Proddies to look forward to each lap

I think its a sad fact that most of the leading Production racers of 2001 are sitting on the sideline's.

Poor old Simon Harrison must be wondering what he has to do to get a BTC drive, and as reigning BTCC Prod champ surely should have automatically gained a BTC drive. Unfortunately money talks and he doesn't have any.

Moen, Harrison, Graves & Pyper all demonstrated their skills
to good effect last year. The problem is that if or when the prod class disappears from the BTCC - these drivers and many like them won't be able to afford the privateer BTC drives on offer.

Theres loads of drivers whove shown they can cut it at this level but who are without a drive. At least Harisson had a Supertourer drive at one time, as did Moen.

Last year was a good year for production and I think any of the 2001 front runers would win it this year including Kay, Harisson, Moen. Cate, Piper, Jackson etc

Well James Kaye is in action, but otherwise the Production grid doesn't look too impressive. Peter Cate is a particularly sad case as he had to drop out midway through last season when he was running strongly, but its too bad that HTML have dropped out, Barwell and GA moving up and requiring drivers to pay their way, and most teams going for rich club racers instead of talented drivers.

Are we talking about the same Production grid? Quite a few of this year's new crop of production drivers seem to be pretty quick (although in some cases a bit wild....) Norman Simon is a top-class driver (I hope Edenbridge can keep him in the car all season..), and Saunders in the GA Alfa- who has stepped up from club racing- is certainly on the pace, as are the Beacon Motorsport duo.

The beacon duo deserve to be there, it's about time Saunders got a break, Simon is without a doubt worth more than production ditto for Kaye but they should be pleased to have what they've got look at others, and the rest from what I have heard are a farce.

1. Simon Harrison
2. Simon Graves
3. Gabrieli Tarquini
4. Roger Moen
5. Matt Jackson
6. Matt Piney
7. Mark Blair
8. Toni Ruokenen
9. Hyla Breese
10. I know he has a clio drive but Daniel Buxton

I thought I saw him in the Vauxhall garage at Brands, i may have been mistaken though. Either that or someone out there looks very much like Will Hoy!!!

Cate is testing for Team B&Q and may get some races this year, Graves was testing for Barwell at the Official test at Thruxton.
Sheddon will be driving an GR Motorsport Alfa 147 from the Thruxton race onwards.
Gavin Pyper was rumoured to be in line for a drive some where but I can't remember. It may be an Alfa 156 but I'm not sure.

Also someone else to add to the list TOM FERRIER, this guy should be racing in the Touring Class, he's a great driver.

Roger Moen??? Didn't he lose his sponsors back in '98 or '99 when he tried to race an Accord in the BTCC?? He did miserably? Or are you guys saying he has matured/improved since then?

Has anyone mentioned Toni Ruokoen. He hasn't been given a chance in the BTCC yet which is sad.

Roger Moen was sponsored by Peugeot Norway last year, don't know if that'd do the Norwegian importer any good though..

Derek Warwick is going to be one of the guest commentators on ITV this year, wonder who it'll be tomorrow ??

There's also the most obvious one Jason Plato he should be in the BTCC, not doing ASCARS.
