Audi chose not to build, and why would they? Nobody can beat the R8's as is.
Nothing else concrete as of yet. |

Dallara is busy churning out F3 spec. racers (do they still built the IRL Widowmaker?), and I believe they will have the GP2 contract so I don't see them building a sportscar. Zytek seems to be here to stay, too. They have picked up the DBA project, and I believe this car was built with the possibility of conversion to the '05 regs in mind. The Porsche CEO has said a while ago that they are considering a return in 2006, and if they do return it will be with a prototype. Personally, I don't buy into the "all will be well if only Porsche comes back" hype, so I don't care if they do. Also, I am not counting R&S out altogether. I fear that might well be the case. I'd love to see them build a customer chassis for the new ACO regulations, just as much as I'd love to see the Mk IIIC developed further, but I suspect Bill Riley feels that Grand Am is where the money is to be made, at the moment. Alas.

And he's not alone ; we - ALMS fans - have to admit that GARRA supporters were right predicting the success of the DPs...

Alright so maybe I should have said: I'm not counting out Bill Riley.

Lister are currently designing a new car to 2004 regs, for the 2005 season. Customer cars will also be built.
As I've said before theres no point building cars, if there is no one to run them. In Europe it seems new teams are finally coming into prototype racing, and with the rising cost of GTS, it is now more viable for a smaller team to run a prototype than a top line GTS car. Audi, Zytek, Lola, 'NASAMAX' and Lister are all definates with 2004 reg LMP1 cars. Thats good enough so far to cope with customer demand. Once the LMES is up and running the manufactuers will eventually return. It always happens. Last edited by JAG; 17 Mar 2004 at 17:21. |
