FIA-SCC Field in Germany

Looks like 12 cars again...

No Pescarolo, but Lavaggi and the ancient Ferarri are on that list, as are the 2 RfH, the Durango, the DBA and the Promec...

The other class is three Lucchinis and 2 Pilbeams...

Doesn't exactly give me goosebumps....

The LM Tournament couldn't come too soon for me...this is absurd...

Some of the teams have apparantly pushed for ratel to get involved with the lm tournament, and you can see why.

I know just enough about the announcement at LM the other day to be real dangerous, but I could have sworn that I saw a comment from an FIA person who was present that seemed supportive of the whole thing (on dailysportscar.com?)...

Regardless, this "event" in Germany doesn't sound like it will be much of a race....the RfH's against the DBA with a possible outside challenge from Promec or Taurus (although Taurus seemed to have a tough day on Sunday)

Yes but it will get better soon. As soon as the Pescarolet car gets back from Le Mans, and when the Spanish Courage joins the series, not to mention the team Goh Audi R8, and maybe the Lister LMP. Either way its good LMP action, better than what u would find in Grand Am after all..

Couple of things, Spanish Courage will have a Chevy engine, and No Taurus or DBA in Germany. Roll on Le Mans Tournament, as i think this will rekindle the fire in the belly of many a sportscar team / fan.

If Taurus and DBA aren't going to be in Germany, that makes 10 cars...

"batcave" told me in another thread yesterday that Taurus wouldn't be there...

DBA was listed in the Monday Dailysportscar.com report as being on the preliminary entry list

Guess the rumor about Germany being a "Maybe" that Dailysportscar.com mentioned hearing in the garage area in one of the Le Mans reports on Sunday was no rumor...

Ten cars is not a field...it is a joke...

But I can see the point for not running there if you're entered at LM -- teams won't learn anything on a roval that will be applicable to LM set-ups....

Why rick the car for a meaningless race when the big one is a month away???

Ee gads. Ten cars...sad indeed. For once i'm glad to live in North America. We may not have "the big one", but at least we have a good series to suffice for the balance of the year. Let's hope the Le Mans Tournament rekindles the european LMP scene.

Four high-visibility races in the "Tournament" will be a great addition to the sportscar racing scene, but I'd like to see more events than four....That's why I would hope that the FIA would run their own set of 3-4 races that do not conflict with the Tournament, but let the FIA teams count their standings at the Tournament races in their points system for their own championships...

Europe would benefit form an 8 race season plus Le Mans, which is about what we get here with the ALMS...

Tim believe me it won't get much better, the FIA series is just not that attractive for teams to spend money on. Roll on new Le Mans endurance series!!!!!!

To batcave:

I can understand that, given what we're seeing as a "lineup" this weekend....

But wouldn't it be easier for someone like Taurus Sports, and more attractive to potentail sponsors, to sell an 8-10 event package of races - with the LM Tournament and a possible run in the Big One itself as half of the program -- a package where there are added countries and or major metropolitan markets for exposure, than to sell a 4-race Tourney package, possibly 5 with LM????

And wouldn't you be able to pitch them to put up more $$$ with a bigger, more diverse package of this nature???

Your thoughts would be most appreciated...

Tim i can see your point however, the big bucks just aren't around. To have a 4/5 race le mans series (inc. the big one)all of 1000k plus would considerably reduce team costs and gain bigger tv interest. If all centred around le mans with le mans being a point scoring round, this could bring the works teams back for a cracking full series! Just my opinion of course!!!!!

But they're going to keep the Big One separate....

However, I do see your point about available $$$$....at least in the current economic climate...but the Tournament concept might bring people to the table due to the heighened visibility

The problem with the FIA series is that even though they race in big market areas such as Germany, UK and the like, nobody actually goes to the race, watches them on TV or covers them in magazines.

Lots of big teams have been happy to focus all of there money on LM, PLM and sebring add in the LMT and I think 4 championship races and 3 optional events is just right, particularly as these events will all be long endurance races.

I would be interested to know what the teams themselves think about the LMT, it can't be good for morale, sponsors etc competing in the continually depressing FIA SCC. The 2000 and 2001 UK ELMS had the buzz and excitement that had been missing since Group C and the hight of GT1.

Plus a major part of the excitement of modern sportscar racing is the fac that different classes compete with each other and a 550/C5R or GTR-RS/TVR/360 battle can be just as exciting as the LMPs up front.

I don't see the current European teams coming to Sebring or Petit...overseas travel is REALLY expensive when you're shipping cars, gear, etc. via air cargo...

Otherwise, where Have RfH, Pescarolo, Courage Competition, Team Goh, etc., been??? Not at Sebring or Petit...

The only way they could feasibly do it is to hook with a big cargo carrier or somebody like Airbus and cut them a huge promo deal that includes the 4 Tourney races, LM and Sebring & Petit and make them the "Official Air Transporter" for the series and get a cut rate for shipping the teams...

You have hit the nail on the head. The biggest problem is the mags particularly autosport, just dont cover sportscars. Remember in the good old days of group c, it was as big as f1. The fan base is there if they just knew more about it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Autosport doesn't cover the FIA SCC, but cna you blame them.

When there has been a 'big' sportscar race in the UK such as the ELMS races they have covered them weel including a good preview.

Hopefully the LMT can return us to them days.

In my opinion this is a possible grid for next season:-

LMP900/LMGTP

Pescarolo 1
Courage 1
RFH Dome 2
Taurus 1
Durango 1
Audi UK 1
Joest Audi 1
Bentley (maybe just the UK round)
R&M 1
GLV 1

LMP675

DBA 1
Chamberlain MG 1
RML MG 1
Noel Del Bello?

GTS

BMS 550 2
JMB 575 2
GN Saleen 2
Allio Viper 1
Carsport Holland Zonda 1
Prodrive/Veloqux 1
Labre? 1
Konrad 1

GT

Freisinger GT3 1
PK Sport GT3 2
Maranello/Veloqux 360 2
TVR 2
JMB 360 2

You don't think some American teams will make the trip if they can earn an automatic entry to LM by being on the podium?

Also, I was asking about R&M and apparently they are running some Italian GT series this year and are not running their refurbished and modified R&S MkIIIA chassis that has become the R&M...too bad...they were making some headway lat the end of last season...
