HRSTR5 should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Oulton

I've made a bit of a habit of getting out on my mountain bike to explore the countryside around some of the HSCC venues this year. Had lovely rides out from Cadwell and Donington, looking to maximise use of bridleways where possible (often rather overgrown!).

Sunday morning I got out from Oulton, in previous years I have cycled in the areas south and east of Oulton, but it's pretty flat and featureless, as well as being road (albeit quiet backroad) ... this time I went out to the hills to the west of the circuit, i didn't have very long, but it was lovely, great long views over beautiful countryside, and found a few nice bits of bridleway - i recommend it!

It's nice to see the countryside around our locations, for so many years I've just motorwayed up, raced, loaded up and motorwayed home!

I went out on a road ride on Sunday from Oulton with a couple of the Historic FF2000 drivers. We did a loop from the circuit which took us as far as Wales - 98km in total. Some of the roads near the circuit were a bit ropey but we stuck mainly to lanes which were very quiet. It was a nice way to spend a day on which we had no on-track activity.

I thought this picture sums up what makes Cycling a true sport, how it can connect with people outside of the 'Bubble', and the-man-in-the-street is able to be part of a race, not having to pay ridiculous amounts of money to sit in a stadium, and never interacting with the stars.

It was a classy gesture…the youngster was not hanging about either.

Definitely need to do this with you Alan over the winter. I am sure HRTR5 would be up for it as well.
We went out this morning the roads were swarming with cyclist.I do find the ones that pass you all done up in their club Lycra are all blooming miserable.I make a point of shouting " Morning ". Yea and I hope you get a puncture.

So I finally made it and raced the Lotus last Saturday here in Switzerland, interestingly this weekend was also the 25th anniversary of the UCI banning the monocoque superbike frames as well.

About the ride, it's a fast bike made for the flats, rolling hills doesn't work really with it plus the rider was on tired legs from the past week ironman race so worst combination but at least he had a lot of fun and people loved the bike!

Nice bike there. Can see why those things were banned. Glad you enjoyed it though. Nothing better than a good cycle to clear your mind

Some of you may know that Iain cycles to and from work most days (about 15 miles each way, I think). Iain (being a true mechanic) subjects his bikes to abuse and neglect all year round without any consideration to maintenance. I gave his beloved green Specialized Allez a major service/renovation earlier this year but now it's in need of further TLC...

Iain wanted a new bike to ride to work whilst the green one was being resuscitated. I found a Specialized Secteur with various problems on Facebook Marketplace for £100. Once I'd had a good look at the bike I realised that it was way better than expected. I've stuck a Tiagra groupset on it, new tyres and the mudguards he's going to need in the coming months. Hopefully he'll be as pleased with the outcome as I am...

Nice safe winter colour!

I've just accepted a new job, will be managing a small drawing/design office, major difference from where I am now will be a 4 mile cycle along the beach to get there, as opposed to a 25 mile drive in heavy traffic . . . . That can only be a good thing for me and the planet. I won't mention wallet as the petrol saving will no doubt get reinvested in something else on wheels!

Not compliant Your Honnor! I suspect there's a CTIS (Central Tire inflation System) hidden in the seatpost… In other words a PWYRS, pump while you ride system!

It's interesting to ponder the so-called "developments" in cycling over the last few years. That bike of Iain's has external cabling, threaded bottom bracket, separate bar and stem, rim brakes, cup and cone bearings in the wheels etc. It was so easy to work on.

It's also interesting to compare the type of bikes you get at cafes during the week and at weekends. During the week (in the winter) they've all got mudguards and mechanical shifting. The erm... mature riders who own them are probably stopping for a coffee during a 100km ride or similar. At the weekends the bikes have often got Di2 (electronic) shifting and disk brakes and the dentists and barristers riding them are probably doing less than 50km.

It's not all bad though. Indexed shifting is good and so is a threadless headset.
