H.W. Aufrecht says in a recent interview that ITR has already made advance payments of roughly € 2mill. to MGR for the project, and he hopes the money won't be a write-off... - I find that astonishing.

Aufrecht also says that "there will not be a championship with only two manufacturers" and "there is hope Opel will continue".

It would be a pity if they did not continue because the championship looks as though it is going to be better this year than any I can remember. They have attracted some great drivers.

The way Aiello drove on sunday, they may well run out of spare parts before the end of the season! And I hope Merc orders more duct tape for Gary! guess Audi's are a wee bit stronger, just need to work on that speed a bit!

The way Aiello drove I think all the teams will be stocking up on spare parts.

I dont really think Aiello could do much about it. He was forced off the track by Abt's spin, and lost control on the carpet beside the track.

I'm just in disbelief that a company with financial troubles would even consider start a new motorsport venture! How did they become involved? Did ITR commission a race chassis and then present it to the various manufacturers? And only MG responded??

I can't believe that ITR paid MGR E2m - why? In fact I heard that MGR had contributed E1m. The E2m sounds more like the payment to Zytec to design, develop & build the cars

Nissan instead of MG?
Trevor Foster (Zytek): "We are talking with one or two European manufacturers and one or two Asian manufacturers. It's not enough for a manufacturer to supply a bodyshell. DTM needs a 3rd manufacturer who invests. They need to invest 6 million Euro for 2 cars and another 4 million Euro for the hospitality and promotion." The project is a joint venture between ITR and Zytek. To start the project the British company got 1 million Euro from ITR. According German magazine AutoBild Nissan is a strong candidate to enter DTM with the Zytek developed car. Nissan competed in STW (German super touring car championship) with the Primera from 1996 to 1998. At the moment Nissan (owned by Renault) has no factory motorsport project in Europe. Before Zytek made an agreement with MG Rover they were in talk with Jaguar. After the collapse of MG Rover they are again in talks with Jaguar, but an agreement with Nissan is more likely. The development of the car is completed for 85%. If they find no partner Zytek [and ITR?] have invested 2 million Euro for nothing. Source: AutoBild Nissan would maybe a logical choice. Their business is going well (if I am right the biggest profit in their history). After Renault took over the World Series by Nissan and the rally raid project is ended they have no motorsport project in Europe. There are also rumours Nissan would go back to sportscar racing (they supply Rollcentre with a engine, but I think this is not full factory effort). Also rumours they will do a GT project with the 350Z in 2006. BTW: According former WRC driver Freddy Loix MG was busy with a S2000 rally project. |

There already is a 350Z running in GT.
There was also a stillborn BTCC car built a few years ago. Also, MGR have been running a S1600 rally car for a few years and the S2000 one has been running a while as well, don't think it made it onto the stages though. |
