Help re Data Usage

Can anyone approximate how many GB of data usage the WEC Live timing feed will use?

Sorry to start a thread for such a niche question. Trying to work out the cost of using in whilst roaming in France.

Thanks

The live timing, so there is no streaming involved? You'd be looking at megabytes rather than gigabytes, even the WEC can't screw up updating coloured numbers on a screen that badly!

I doubt it will get anywhere near 1Gb (maybe some 10s of Mb if you had it on and refreshing for the whole race?) so it shouldn't be a problem.

Brilliant. Thank you.
At 19p per MB I should be ok to leave it on then - as long as I don't go watching videos!

Just fearful of phone carriers and crazy bills to come back to.

Try Vodafone, available in town or next to Carrefour, but note that it takes about 24 hours before a new sim card activates in France.

Just have a look at the traffic counter in your phone before you open the live timing the next time. Make sure no other apps are running that download data and after ten minutes you know what the data volume for the whole race will be!

live.fiawec.com requests a .js file every 15 seconds - at the moment that file is 1.23kB but there's no live data just now. Let's say it's 5kB, 4 times per minute = 28.1MB over the course of 24 hours. I'll check it when a session is live and give you an update - I assume the app uses the same data, but it'll also load extra stuff as well.
