How come West Coast want to come to the UK? Not knocking them, great to see the grid filling up, just seems strange they want to travel from Sweden for a national championship.

Nice to a couple more entries, a talented ex BTCC driver in Lloyd and VW championship and one time BTCC entrant Wilson. Seems we might have a half decent grid

Are the entries for the Bäckman siblings just a one-off for Silverstone, or are they looking to do more? If it's just a one off, then I guess it's a useful opportunity to get some TCR race mileage under their belts before an STCC programme or whatever (IIRC, neither of them have much, if any, touring car experience, with a background in karting and rallycross)- and with West Coast having a third car, then if Lloyd has got a budget to do Silverstone, then a quick driver with TCR experience provides a pretty useful benchmark for the Bäckmans.

Thinking back over the years I've been watching racing, there have always been a few Scandinavian drivers who came over to do at least occasional touring car races in the UK - Nettan Lindgren is the most obvious name who comes to mind but I can think of quite a few other occasional visitors to the BTCC back in the 80's

Interesting wording.

News of a two car Alfa Romeo programme was revealed last week, with the DPE Motorsport outfit set to run the cars for Aiden Moffat and Derek Palmer Jr.

It has now been confirmed however that the programme will be run by the same squad behind Moffat’s BTCC effort, with the two Romeo Ferraris-developed cars being entered under the Laser Tools Racing banner.

Derek Palmer's team sacked before race 1?

So 13 entries so far? Not great, but nowhere near as bad as it was a few weeks ago. Good to see Moffat give it a go, will give future tin top drivers someone to mark themselves against and be a boost for the series.

Well done to the organisers for sticking with it, even when it was looking hopeless. Just remember BTCC only had 12 cars in 05 to begin with, and although it never got beyond 18 that season, the next season they had something like 26 on the grid, which was the most since the mid 90s. No reason why TCR UK, with the right plans can grow

Not sure if it has been mentioned yet but I saw a snippet saying a media event launch thingy will happen this Friday at the circuit before the weekend kicks off properly.

Here here!!
I have never seen such negativity/knocking of a series on tenths before?
If it works elsewhere around the globe we can be assured that it will work here. Perhaps it will take a season to bed in.

Might be worth searching for the threads on SCV8 and T1 touring car championships

Where it works it's the top of the tree though - here it isn't - and the cost is higher than some of the BTCC drives and more than the BTCC supports (that have better exposure than TCR). So whilst the cars look good and widely available is there any real benefit to running in TCR over something on the BTCC package?

FWIW I hope it does take off and they get a 20+ car grid (watching TCR when it comes to Brands has got to be better than a weekend of gardening/DIY - which is often what I end up doing if there's no racing worth watching).

Personally i cant imagine so because id presume that TCR UK will see less damage and less track time but to be honest, who knows.

Here you can view a parts price list for the old TCR Civic http://www.kronosevents.be/documents...27-11-2015.pdf

Creates an interesting question. Put yourself in one of two scenarios:

1. You're a hot young talent, but underfunded (lets say a Jake Hill type).
2. Your a gentleman driver who won't be troubling the front end of the grid, but want maximum business exposure (lets say a Martin Depper type)

Given the greater prestige, coverage and audiences I can't really see why anyone would choose TCRUK over the BTCC.

A front-running car in TCR vs a Team Hard or AMD (with no disrespect intended to those teams) drive? Which would you choose?

That's the question isn't it?

If you go for TCR and win then you can put "Champion" on your racing cv - might not matter so much to the gentleman driver but for a young gun it may help with getting more money out of sponsors (and therefore allow you to get into a better BTCC car than your original budget would have allowed).
