So GT Open Cup will have two separate classes? I thought the aim was to let the more powerful GT4s like the Merc or the McLaren off the hook and let them run in one classification with the Cup-cars?!

No, this is more a catch all for the cars they want entry fees from, but dont have space for in the main GT grid.

Im not sure however, if they will allow the GT4 to run without bop, against the GT Cup cars, thatd be interesting

Wrong!
"
Eligible cars include GT cars from mono-brand series, such as Ferrari 488 Challenge, Lamborghini Huracán SuperTrofeo and Porsche 911 Carrera Cup, and cars within a 5/6 seconds per lap performance gap with respect to GT3 cars, such as McLaren 570S, Mercedes AMG R, Audi R8 LMS, BMW M4, etc.
A BoP to balance their performance is currently being worked out, with track sessions already having taken place at the Hungaroring and Monza and one more scheduled at Barcelona."
http://www.gtopencup.net/en/news/6/g...ially-launched
"

The work aimed at drafting a Balance of Performance for the cars that will take part to the GT Open Cup, the new series promoted by GT Sport which will kick-off in 2019, continued at Monza with a track test on Friday.
This is the second track test carried out, after the one at the Hungaroring last July and the third scheduled at Barcelona in October.
Cars from five different brands took part to the test, followed by the teams quoted in brackets: Ferrari 488 Challenge (AF Corse), Porsche 911 Carrera Cup (Ombra Racing), Mercedes AMG R (SPS Automotive Performance); McLaren 570S (Garage59) and Lamborghini Huracán SuperTrofeo (VSR)."
http://www.gtopencup.net/en/news/4/b...inued-in-monza
"While interest for the new pro-am and am series launched by GT Sport for cars one step below GT3 is growing steadily among teams across Europe, an important Balance of Performance track session took place this week at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
Five different car models were involved: the Lamborghini Huracan SuperTrofeo (by Vincenzo Sospiri Racing, with Giovanni Venturini at the wheel), the Mercedes AMG R (SPV Racing, with Thomas Jäger as driver), the McLaren 570S (a factory car entrusted to Euan Hankey), the Audi R8 LMS (by Baporo, with Manel Cerqueda and Dani D*az-Varela) and the Porsche 911 Carrera Supercup (by Alméras, driven by Ayhancan Güven and Hugo Chevalier).
Held in perfect weather and track conditions, the test provided valuable data towards the finalization of the BoP to the team of Luis Isasi, the Technical Delegate of GT Sport. The outcome of the test was very positive, as the lap times of the different cars, even in “non-balanced” configuration, remained in the sought bracket of 5 tenths of a second."

They're both not doing too hot in that regard.

Both have 5 brands on the grid, but while the most numerous make in Blancpain (Audi at 13) is even more numerous than the most popular option in GT Open (Mercedes at 10), the second placed make in GT Open (Lambo at 8) constitutes another 33% of the grid, while the number two in BGT (Merc at 5) is only represented by 18% of the field.

So in Blancpain, 66% of the field are made up by only two makes, whereas in IGTO that number is at 74%.

Fair enough, but there does seem to feel like a nicer spread in Gt Open.

Can’t really blame either series for what cars show up. Kinda down to the car manufacturers to provide better packages to lure teams away from Audi/AMG/Lambo

Anyone watch race 1? Enjoyable action, good job by Duncan Cameron to finish P2. Despite all the Lambos and Mercs neither were able to win the race 😀

I see, so the 1st, 2nd and 4th placed cars should all have been disqualified.

Will you please inform the race organizers, it seems they forgot to apply that rule for those non-conform cars.
They probably should not even have allowed them to take the race start. Let's hope the stewards do a better job tomorrow for race 2!

The new McLaren GT3 got its first ever race win. Live in the present, remember the past, and fear not the future, for it doesn't exist and never shall. There is only now. Go McLaren!

I see there is a provisional entry list for Silverstone. Does anyone know if there's an entry list available for the gt open cup or whatever it's called?

In Silverstone, the GT Open Cup BoP was a disgrace and the Int GT Open main series handicap regulation a tragedy.

Looking forward to further comedy this weekend at Barcelona.
