abr944 should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Any body know anything about a second bathurst event for 2005

we all know that bathurst can be used twice a year for racing......one weekend is still up for grabs.....there may never be a 24 hour again ,but plenty of other categories would love a run at bathurst.????? someone must know something.

the Procar series, with Channel 7 backing could use it.

They have F4000 from memory... it would be nice to see some high powered open wheelers around there !

Then of course, there is always the chance of Champ Car or IRL even taking it... wouldnt that be a coup.. Champ Car has forever been saying that it wouldnt mind two Australian rounds.

Then of course there is Nascar, F1, hell, even world rally could use it.

I think the PROCAR series is the best bet... all other series wouldnt be able to afford it... at least procar has a range of catagories and Channel 7 backing which could make for interesting viewing.

If no-one takes up the option, how about another V8 round? 3 x 250km races over the weekend.

Why not a 2nd tier Supercar mini enduro of 2x250 km races, and a Ute enduro of 250 kms?

Holding a few mini enduros for several AVESCO support classes isn't actually that silly as an idea....and just to break the drought, do it in the off season

interesting comments...cos i beleive thats the direction it could be heading.....a bathurst for the development v8's......that could be a partial explanation of making the 1000 only open to the big league cars......in the past some of the konica cars could run in the big race.....not any more....could be a viable option and would only make the 1000 the big event so to speak and as we all know....support acts for bathurst are extremely easy to get...at big fees as well....ondinary joes will pay huge money just to run there.

There (sadly) doesn't seem to be another category with a storng enough following to merit a seperate Bathurst meeting. Some of the more ahem... experienced member on this forum could probably tell you about the old Easter meets with open-wheelers, sporties, Improved Prod tourers and heaven only knows what else.

Unfortunately the open-wheelers have out-grown Mt Panorama... hell, the tourers are quicker around there than the fearsome formula cars of the days of yore (Niel Allen's fearsome 2:09.7 or somesuch is well and truly eclipsed, especially when we now have to factor in Caltex Chase).

While it would be a wonderful thing to see more racing there, having a second event merelyfor the sake of having a second event won't bring 'em thru the turnstiles...

i think the turnstiles are not really a problem cos i have already said....people will pay huge entry fees to run.....1500 per car last year in the supports for the 24 hour...1450 for hq's several years ago and they had to knock back entries.

Please, I think we have reached supercar saturation point, dare I say a while ago aswell.

On the subject of the 24 Hour. Talk a few weeks ago outlined that a new promoter was interested in the event and doing looking at it(feasibility studies etc). That combined with Stephan Ratel visit a few weeks ago means not all is lost yet.

I'm pretty sure Bathurst is not licenced to run openwheelers, FF excepted.

Slightly off topic, but considering this point that only the Level 1 & 2 franchises will be allowed in the 1000 from now on, and with TEGA showing that they are eager to get the grid down to 32, this means the 1000 will be locked at 32 entrants each year. Complete stupidity, and abit of hypocricy considering the caning Super Touring copped from the V8 fraternity when it had a 'small' grid of 27 cars in 1997.

As for a second event, why not bring back the bikes at Easter.

there in lies my theory....if only level 1 and 2 franchises can run in the big one....and now that the event is stretched out to many days....we could logically have a second bathurst say a 500k race for the development v8's.....plenty of supports.....and yes...no winged open wheelers can run at bathurst...

hey guys....this is a serious discussion because there is permission in place for a second event...new facilities need to be fully utilised and what better justification....than the two bathurst weekends that are permitted under the act of parliament.....only twice a year.....only......makes the second unused date extremely valuable .
remember that it is a public road 100%

Working on the basis of "use it or lose it", a development-series event would be a logical idea... give the young'uns some exposure to the place (remembering that once upon a time the ARDC accepted entries at their discretion, based on experience and quality many times).

I don't think that the restriction of the L1 & L2 entry criteria has hurt the 1000... this year it seemed like it may have contributed to the elimination of much of the silliness following pace-cars of the past where people got ambitious on cold rubber at the restart and fell off, taking out a stack of others in the ensuing melee.....
