What is going on here?
He’s a good driver, seems a decent guy, but can we really get that worked up that he might have missed out on the ultimate trope drive? |

Can you imagine the thread that Pete will start when Kimi finally loses out on a seat in F1 (probably around 2035..... ).

Or more to the point, don’t quite have the budget to match Merc, despite both being car manufacturers

Because Hulkenberg usually crashes when he has the chance for a good result. Meanwhile, Perez, Stroll, Sainz, Kvyat, Gasly, Magnussen, Grosjean -- they all have podiums.
Hulkenberg is probably about the same level (including the level of bad luck) as Mark "Potsie" Webber. Unfortunately, Hulkenberg asked for too much money from HAAS, so HAAS didn't want him, so that's that! If he was determined to continue if F1, be it driving for HAAS for cheap (refer the great job "Quick" Nick Heidfeld did at Jordan for no salary in order to stay in F1) or finding some sponsors to bring to Williams, Hulkenberg could still be in F1 -- but it seems Hulk is not interested!? Regardless, Hulkenberg could have had a podium at Germany 2019 but (like many times before, such as Brazil 2010), Hulkenberg fell off the road instead... Unfortunately, Enstone facilities became outdated under GENII, while staffing level dropped well below top teams like Red Bull. Last edited by V8 Fireworks; 12 Apr 2020 at 00:52. |

Despite the ages, I still see chances for both him and Kubica (who was supposed to move to Ferrari in 2012). We need to remember that Juan Manuel Fangio managed to become WC at age 46, in a time in which safety wasn't the issue. I believe even with those two drivers Mercedes would still be able to fight for the top. I would say it sounds like a dumb rule, on the other hand it would be funny if the defending champion had to switch to a mediocre team to bring it to the top. |

Completely different operation, budget, management. Zero overlap other than the name on the chassis between this era and the Alonso Renault car

It was fun when Rossi switched from his race winning Honda team to race for Yamaha and bought them a few titles. He should be applauded for that. However we can't really blame it that not many world champions have done that, for they want to remain on top if they can
