I'd be all for this...would be great.
If it did happen though I think it would rule out any consideration of Piquet or Roseberg for 2005 as they'd need an experienced driver to help Gordon get to grips with the intricacies of F1 set up..hmmmmmm JG & DC (on a one year deal) for '05?

If Jeff is long in the tooth, Michael is Grandpa Moses.

(Michael is more than 2 years older than Jeff.)

You watch how much he impresses in this test, whenever it happens, because now he's got an idea what to expect.

Gordon getting up enough testosterone to try? I'd like to see the F1 grid try Nascar. I respect both, but Nascar is a much closer parity contest. It'd be the closest they'd get to racing equally between themselves.

This is probably mostly promotional. But it will be fun to watch. I'm not a Jeff Gordon fan, but of the NASCAR guys, he perhaps has one of the best chances. The only other one I think could do it is Tony Stewart, but he certainly doesn't fit the mold of an F1 driver. While not road course specialists, these two guys have prooved that they can be competitive regardless of what kind of car they are in. That's a good sign of talent. All in all, Jeff's willingness to sample the F1 world has certainly given me more appreciation for him. I'd give him a better shot over Sam Hornish Jr. Jeff has plenty of money, so why wouldn't he want to see how good he is?

senna12, by long-in-the-tooth, I meant for a rookie in F1. Despite his experience, F1 would be a huge transition. Given the difficulties that Zanardi and Michael Andretti had adapting to F1, at younger ages, I think its safe to assume that it would be a huge battle for Gordon. Every track would be a new experience-the quantity of travel would be enourmous and he would be isolated from his traditional fan-base. Its hard enough for a younger guy, but for some one set in his ways, it would be a big step, but one I'd love to see him make.

I've heard that there is a bit of grumbling about this in the Hendrick minions, some of his team have expressed frustration at him even wanting to test in F1.

They don't really want him to be looking around at new things like that, maybe similar to leaving the wife at home and going to the strip bar (not my analogy, just repeating the one I heard!)

I fear this test/chance the Gordon would ever race in F1 is all just wishful thinking...

I agree golem.

Its high time, that all of these high-priced drivers start crossing over, like they did in the old days. That way, we'll really know how good of a driver you are! Are there any Mario Andretti's left out there?

We all know Schummy is the F1 master, but could he handle the IRL, or NASCAR? Can Gordon handle F1? When taken out of their comfort zone, how would they fair?

It would be great to find out, and think of the marketing opportunities!

Understood, and I agree with you. I am confident he has the talent to overcome these obstacles, but he would, unlike Michael A. , have to move to Europe, I think.

Gordon's probably the only good NASCAR driver that would be able to handle the road courses F1 dishes out. He won several races at Sanoma and Walkins Glen. At one point, he was invincible on those tracks. If you're going to put a NASCAR driver into F1, you might as well put the best road course driver out there. And, in my mind, Jeff Gordon is the one.

I remember that after that driver swap, JPM's comments were what one might expect. Gordon's comments were the interesting part. Jeff said (and this is very nearly a quote) I know who got the best side of this trade, with a huge smile on his face.

He also spoke of how impressed he was with how fast one could take a corner and the quickness of acceleration.

I would really like to see the testing times and interview following a real test.

Jeff Gordon in a Williams test? It'll give Formula One some
much needed publicity here in Nascar country, while Jeff will no doubt have the time of his life again.I don't think
Jeff will try to jump ship, but it certainly would shake things up a bit!

I'd love to see it happen and we all know that Frank isn't afraid to try out drivers who have been a success across the pond (Zanardi, Villeneuve and Montoya spring to mind).

Probably a long shot but Dixon and Gordon next season would be brilliant!!!! I'm off to dream away!!!

It would be nice, but it isn't likely to happen now. After Dixon's impressive trial, i wouldn't be surprised if someone taps up Sam Hornish for a test before too long?

Dixon and Hornish are, after all, the two most talented guys in their series, pretty closely matched.

I seem to recall MS stating a few years ago that oval racing was too dangerous and he wouldn't be doing it. With all that money in the bank, why would he risk it anyway? He's got nothing much else top prove. Imagine if he went to the US and DIDN'T win straight up like Nigel did?
