Stoner off to Europe

Casey and his dad Col are today making their way to Sydney and heading off to Europe. One there, they will commence final preperations for the assault on the 125cc World Championship for the Safilo factory Aprilia team.

While the championship proper does not get underway until April, testing and fitness work will see Casey remain busy until then. Casey is not expected back in Australia until the break after Japan, the first round.

While thanking his many supporters and fans for their continued support, Casey is still on the lookout for some personal sponsorships and endorsements to make the season a little easier. Anyone interested should drop me an email for a prospectus.

Thanks

interesting ????

so Casey is doing the 125 championship this year after doing 250 last year?????

I thought he did fairly well last year and deserved at least another year in 250.

The choice was 125 factory or 250 kit. So he dscide to go for a win.

I think it may be a good decision in the long run.

absolutely , its always better to be on a factory bike , so i hope it pays off for him as he's got a good future ahead

but at the same time doing really well on a kit bike is also something special , but getting harder and harder to do

Stoner made the best choice possible. He did alright in 250s in 2002, but moving back down to 125s this year with a factory bike will mean race wins for certain. He now has experience on all the tracks and would be confident in his abilities.

Riding-wise, does a year on a 250 make riding the 125 easier, the same way that driving an F3 car would seem that little bit easier after driving an F1 car? Or doesn't that theory apply to bikes?

I am only going on some comments he made but in early season testing he said there was some differences in terms of braking points and lines through corners. Other than that there were only minor technique changes.

Overall he was able to get onto the pace pretty quickly and is looking forward to getting some more testing in. He was close to Lucio's time and there were still some tricks to be fitted to his bike. I will keep you updated as to how he goes.

We have pitched Telstra for a website similar to webbers and are considering a supporters club to help keep everyone up to speed.

casey should do well.
especially due to the fact that Lucio's team was financed with the expectation of the young italian Alex DeAnglis being in the seat.

In the team Casey is in, the first few rounds are likely to be very successful. The bike may stop development as the 'works' teams kick away from their tweaks but he should give a good account of himself

Does Casey have a nickname for himself, either wanted or unwanted?

Casey managed a pair of 9ths over the two days of the Jerez IRTA test.

He is looking forward to the season and thinks that he will get faster as he gets back into the carrying more corner speed etc that 125's demand.

We are talking with some web companies about carrying a web site for him at the moment.

Stoner update:

Casey is now into the groove of riding a 125 and finished the second IRTA test with the third fastest time, one spot above his team boss Lucio Chechinello.

Quote form Lucio

"I did not expect to be among the fastest riders so soon´,

"Casey has gone very quickly. Before he rode in the style of the 250s but now he has accustomed to the 125. In Estoril we rode a lot of laps together and it was almost impossible to pass him. Yesterday he made a time better than mine and many people thought that would bother me but it is exactly the opposite. I feel proud to have a young rider so fast in the team. Also as director I have to work thinking in the future and a good rider is the first ingredient in this structure. To have another rider alongside me who is setting good times is a guarantee, not only for results, but for the sponsors too."

Whilst it is only testing hopes are high in the Stoner camp that some visits to the podium are only weeks away.

Cheers

Update from Motograndprix.com

"Australian youngster Casey Stoner shone brightly beneath the spring sunshine at Valencia today, clocking the fastest time at a private test. Stoner, who had already shown signs of form at Jerez and Estoril, once again demonstrated his rapid adaptation to the 125cc Aprilia, lapping one tenth quicker than his team-mate and boss Lucio Cecchinello."
