Crash Test should be qualifying in the top 5 on the gridCrash Test should be qualifying in the top 5 on the grid
From espn.com

"But everything wasn't rosy in Vegas over the weekend. The comments made by Eliseo Salazar following his crash with Sarah Fisher on lap 126 were most disturbing. With all due respect to Salazar and recognizing that passion and adrenaline can sometimes cloud your observations, his comments concerning the performance of Ms. Fisher and the reference that she should consider "Powder Puff Derby" were uncalled for and unjustified.

Eliseo needs only to look back in his career to some of the problems he created when he raced at the Indianapolis 500 against Davy Jones a few years back. In the late stages of that race, Salazar fought to keep Jones from passing him. He rocked back and forth much to the chagrin of many of his critics, who felt that his defensive tactics were not only uncalled for, but also hazardous. For Salazar to now make such comments about Fisher are just plain wrong.

Fisher showed that she has what it takes to compete with the guys. On my flight home from Vegas, I had the opportunity to chat at length with Sarah's car owner, Derrick Walker. Their interpretation of the on-board telemetry showed that Sarah's accident was caused when she turned too hard in the middle of the corner (something that a lot of guys have done, as well)."

What do we think, let the chick run, or ban Chileans??

Well, You have to consider the source, Jack Arute (Jack Myroot). This guy is an IRL shill.

Although Saladbar was a bit harsh on his comments about Fisher I agree with him that she shouldn't be there. Sarah has only won a few sprint car races and shuld not be competing at even the IRL level. All she is is a irl publicity stunt who happens to have sponsorship.

They should change their name to (G)IRL.

But the problem with it was that was she up at the pointy end of the field in about 3rd postion (and she was there for some time). Now if had been Michael Andretti running in third and then crashed, would we be wanting him banned? Just because the individual is missing something between their legs shouldn't mean that they be treated any different.

She was there because she was pitting out of sequence from the leaders.

Sarah's background is front engined dinosaurs. She really needs a year or two in Atlantics or Lights. If she can do well there then she should get a shot at the bigs, or the irl.

I've seen Ms. Fisher race once (in person), at Indianapolis Raceway Park (.686 mile paved almost flat oval) in a USAC midget. She started third, I think, in the feature, and was soon (ten laps or so) barely in the top ten. There she stayed until something broke, putting her out of the race. Now, it may have been a sick motor all along, but she didn't really show me any prodigal talent. I think that for the last decade or so that the leap from the short track, front engine powered machines to the big time (if you can call the irl big time) is too great a leap. For anyone. (Are you listening, Boy George?) Up until the mid 60's it was possible. After all, the cars that raced at IMS probably raced the Friday before at the 1 mile dirt oval at the fairgounds. As for Saladbar, well, I remember him almost putting Jones into the inside wall at Iny too. 'Nuff said about him...

But it wasn't as if she was geting murdered by the front runners when she was up there...on a track which it is obviously easy to pass on she stayed in 3rd position easily...

I caught the race on TV while in England last week. She spun and he picked the wrong direction to go around her car. Too bad. That's just racing. For Salazar to make any comments about her relative ability comapred to his goes beyond the ludicrous. His career has not been the stellar performance of a champion. If one considers all the races each have run in their respective careers, she probably has more wins than he does.

I was glad to see that neither were injured in the crash.

If she'd been racing in CART, she'd have heard the same thing. Especially if she'd been beating some of the top runners at the time. But it will be 25 years at least before any woman in any formula above kiddie cars will be anything but a "Girl Racer" to these guys - whether they way it on the TV or behind the scenes. Sarah had better get used to it.

In the lower formulae I have no problem with girl racers; we have two in our team, one is 16 years old and goes like a bat - and the guys don't like it because her father pays for her racing and she is better than they are because she's half their weight; the other is older and too fond of her brakes, according to other guys in the team, but is a real competitor and works as hard as any guy out there. But in our formula nobody gives anybody anything; if you can get the stake to race, you can race.

But that's the question, isn't it? Does she qualify, or is she getting a "bye" because of gender?

I don't even know why we debate this.

If she qualifies let her race, it is really very simple.

No, tell me, what is wrong with him?
Is it because he is a Doctor?
Is it because he paid for his ride?
Is it because you think he has no talent?
