Brand X Racing Drivers on their F1 Aspirations

From British Racing Green:

IRL drivers' comments on their F1 "aspirations"

IRL drivers, Sarah Fisher, Sam Hornish Jr. and Derek Daly denied any intention of following in the footsteps of Juan Pablo Montoya and Jacques Villeneuve in the foreseeable future.

20-Year old Sarah Fisher said: "Formula One, that's a dream, way far away. We're just beginning. Of course if I had the opportunity I wouldn't turn it down".

Sam Hornish Jr. added: "I'm a fan of all kinds of racing but I like what I'm doing now".

Finally Irish driver, Derek Daly said: "If you have desire to go Formula One you go and learn to road race, this is not a foundation to be a road racer".

In spite of the fact that they have 100 or more milloin dollar budgets.I don't personally feel that F1 is all its cracked up to be.
1. Only one (or possibly) 2 teams have any chance of competing for the win.
2. Team orders(that's not racing)
3. Tractor tires (or tyres) What's that ?
4. Bernie (nuf said?)
As far as Im concerned . When any one of twenty or more cars could win on a given Sunday,That's racing.
Ovals , Road courses ...Who cares ?
as long as there's competition
A great driver can learn to run in just about any discipline . (some drivers who learned on ovals)
AJ Foyt,Mario Andretti,Al Unser,
Johnny Rutherford

Rick Mears(4 time Indy winner) was a desert racer

Hmmm...please correct me if I am wrong, but Dereck Daly is an F1 veteran.

But hey, I'd love to race in F1, wouldn't you?

I'll even drive a Minardi. I bet I'd be as fast as Tarso anyway.

Kenny Brack (who I believe is F1 worthy)was a former Road Racer who used the IRL as a stepping stone, I don't know about any other young IRL drivers but i imagine some of them must have road racing in their background. Having said that, I think any driver that languishes too long in the IRL is doomed for a career of mediocrity.

Lots of people who raced successfully in F1 never won races.

I will not aspire to McLaren, thanks. Besides, Minardi never stall on the grid, and if we did, nobody would hit us from behind, because nobody is behind us.

I'm trying to think how that works....
This seems to be an oxymoron of Murrayism proportions......

Did Chris Amon ever win?

"because nobody is behind us."
- Ummm...what about Jenson Button and his 3 cylinder engine?

"Dereck Daly is an F1 veteran."
- He's raced in F1 and Cart, and I would value this mans opinion....

Jean Alesi is successful in F1 (or he would not still have a drive) but has only won one race. So far.

Pretty intresting guy.. 1 win and still there... he has been in Ferrari and in other great teams. I quess this is his last year in F1 - two problems 1) age 2) results.

Jeannot is Prost's best friend. He can race there until he's 100 years old if he wants to.

But if you could hear the cheers that go up at Monza when Alesi rolls by, no matter what he's driving, you'd realise that this is a successful pilot. Because he is still racing, no matter what he's in, with his own abilities, not gizmos and gadgets and politics and finger-pointing - and there are plenty of people who appreciate that.

Of course it is possible to be a champion without being a winner. Sir Stirling Moss never won the WDC, but he is a champion just the same.

Chris Amon never won in formula one. Close, but no dice. I think he won a non championship round once.
