Michael on the new Mac

Quando l'abbiamo vista non è che ci siamo detti 'oh Dio, ci siamo dimenticati questo particolare'. No, quanto abbiamo è difficile da battere. La F2003-GA è un tale capolavoro che riusciremo a sopravvivere anche alla nuova McLaren".

When we saw it, its not like we said 'O God, we forgot about this particular thing' No, what we have is difficult to beat. The F2003GA is such a masterpiece that we will surpass (or outlive) even the new McLaren.

FORZA FERRARI!!!

Yeah, he's probably just towing the company line, but really, have we seen him THIS enthusiastic about a car before?

We'll be handing out pies soon, one way or the other, because Ronnie's (and many forum members) been running off at the mouth about how unimpressed he's been with the pace of the F2003GA.

Jay should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
I think it's not so much how the car is out of the box, but how the team develops it and evolves it throughout the season. A car that stays the same will move backward down the grid as teh others improve. Looking at the engineering history of McLaren and Ferrari for mid-season development...I'd say it's not going to be a very interesting season.

I think we will see a small step forward in performance that will ensure 2nd postion in the championship, with further developement for an awsom car in 2004.

At best we will see a car that matches the Ferrari in pace, but has reliability problems. Ron Dennis has always preferred a fast car than a slow reliable one.

We will see

Personally I want to see a Renault with a BMW engine. Maybe Renault should get Nissan to add some resources, and run as Renault - Nissan? It'd add to both brands personally, making Renault seem like a brilliant chassis maker and enhance Nissan's renknowned engine status.

Agree with WREX.
McLaren already in winter 2002-03 proved effective in upgrading the existing car, which is better than new FW25 etc.
So it's important that this car shows a strong potential, as a promise for a great 2004.
About the current season, you cannot honestly claim a right to be OTT using the new issue just for 7-8 races, against opponent cars who are, at that point, much more developed.

But the important thing is they didn't say it was slow. The F2003GA is obviously a step forward, but is it the step forward that everyone thought it would be, or indeed, Ferrari imply that it would be? Is it a step forward over the F2002 that the F2002 was over the F2001? Don't think so.

And is it as impressive (in terms of a step forward) as the Renault is over last years car, or in fact the BAR over it's own car from last year?

I don't know... since its introduction, it really hasn't been pushed. As someone else here pointed out, the F2003Ga has always found that extra speed needed to win, when they need it. No matter what the circuit.

And the way Schumi is talking about it.. he seems to like it better than the F2002... one of the most successful F1 cars in history.

I hope the new Mac can match the Ferrari, but I have my doubts..

Newey doesn't appears to be terribly impressed by his own car neither, lol! Declarations about it looks strangely subdued.

And he says McLaren will use MP-18 in 2004 (the first part of the season, I suppose!), because he will not begin to design the next car until this MP-18 is running. I don't know for sure, but things don't bode good things for Mac IMHO.

Of course, McLaren is a top team and a not so good season for them is not "exactly" the same meaning as for a middle/low team.

I still maintain that this MP4-18 is simply the 2004 car being released early.

I cannot believe Schueys attitude towards the new Mac. It looks outrageous and all he can say is: "It's nothing special. The ****.

The thing is, with Michael, when he makes comments like this and (some) people get irritated with it... he often turns out to be correct, I find.

Everything Shu has said about the new McLaren is pretty much what everybody (except those in red) said about the new Ferarri.
