Formula Libre Australia

CAMS are asking for expressions of interest from potential promotors of a Formula Libre class for Australian Motor Sport.

Does anybody know what this is about and why the sudden interest in this by CAMS?

All I can think of is a potential home for the new F5000 inspired FT5000 category being launched by Chris Lambden.

Formula Libre used to be a part of many Club type events up until the late 90s, I can remember the races at the Phillip Island Island Magic events for example.

Certainly there are plenty of cars available already in Australia including F5000s, old F1 cars, Formula Holdens, F Atlantics etc.

Do we (Australia) really need FT5000?

Australian and NZ single seat racing was founded in formula libre.
It grew a special breed of driver and race engineer who went abroad in the 50s, 60s, 70s etc and were a major factor in race engineering in Europe.
Libre racing was great to watch with the different strengths and weaknesses of the cars at varying parts of the circuits
'Maybe it could lift single seat racing here out of the boredom of all the spec series stuff if some imagination was brought to bear.
Gotta be better than F4!

Still not sure why CAMS are asking for a promoter for a "Formula Libre" category. When F Libre existed in the past it was far from a professional affair needing a professional promoter?
