Money.
If, and it's hugely unlikely one Ferrari did come in with pukka works P1 then it will siphon money from not just the Ferrari f1 program but F1 in general. The appeal of F1 is the hype that surrounds it, very little of it is about the racing to the people that pay for it. If Ferrari did up sticks then a lot of that hype would follow it leaving F1 damaged in terms of the money it could generate. It's not about the racing folks, it's about the money. F1 is TV friendly in ways wec can never be given the long distance / time nature of the events, and would be a harder sell, but if company's such as VAG, toyota and Nissan see it worth while then others could as well. All those companies don't use it for the TV coverage, they use it for hospitality, getting your customers, suppliers etc together. From that point of view a longer distance race without the agro of F1 makes a lot sense. You have longer to spend with them, don't have to pay Bernies henchmen etc |

90 minutes for F1, some slightly more or less. The 24hr of Le Mans equals 80% of F1's total time racing on a 20 race schedule. then 7 other 6hr races is another 2520 minutes. Thats 220% the race time F1 does in a season. I would like to see it broken up a little more. Some 8hr races and some 4hr races would give some different strategies for driver time. The same length each race is too much like F1.

I don't think the WEC would create races with different time-distance such as 4 to 8 hours. Having a four hour WEC race is similar to watching a 500-mile NASCAR race.
For now, a 6 hour race is fine in my opinion 'cause I don't want the WEC to get ahead of themselves, especially with Formula One. Now back to the topic. Sure that Ferrari will be welcomed to the P1 class, but I'm worried that they'll be crying afoul when their car is outperformed by a large margin. Also, if Ferrari leaves F1, which manufacturer will take the center stage to fill up the void? I don't see any of the VW Group brands joining Formula One due to its obviously-high cost. |

Both Audi and Porsche are currently spending what amounts to a midfield F1 team budget right now. While Toyota supposedly spends back of the F1 grid money on it's front of the grid sportscar program

Good find. "Enclosed wheel championships..." wonder what they had in mind?

Maybe they are referring to the GTE/GT3 car?

I was quite intrigued by that too. Can't think of anything short of a hypothetical GT1 class for it to run in. GTE and GT3 is well covered by the 488. There's no point in this car for those categories. Was watching Oschersleben 2004 FIA GT last night. Loved those big banger GT1 cars such as the 550/575, Saleen, Lister, Maserati etc |

1) It was the test mule of Turbo V6 engine to F1 (There was a video in Fiorano) 2) As some element of pressure to Ecclestone (like a Garage 56), Something weird happened the previous week of Le Mans 2014. All the Journalists are given as a fact the return of Ferrari but not happened. I do not believe all of that are been wrong, there was something strange behind all that press operation. |

It could be to test the F1 engine, but then it said 6.3L, which is the V12. Plus that "enclosed wheel championship" makes me think wec. They already have the 488 GTE/3 running, no need to be secretive about them. And ~960hp is way higher than any of those, plus they don't have a 6.3L V12, like the F1 car.

Test mule for P1 drivetrain? That said such a big V12 doesn't meet regs for P1, if Ferrari did want to come back then the rules would be rewritten to allow that

This is the same car without rear wing. Perhaps after these tests they change the engine and put the V12 http://www.automoto.it/news/ferrari-...mans-2015.html https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=od3H6Jxisfk For me the car was the rumored Garage 56. |

Why doesn't a large displacement V12 meet regulations?
As far as what it was built for it says "hypothetical closed wheel championship". As in something that doesn't really exist. It was never anything other than a test mule for the FXX-K and to see how it might work should a championship for it to race existed. Last edited by TRuss; 18 Sep 2016 at 23:28. |

It could be a case of Ferrari potentially loosing their big payments from F1's new owners and making a threat to move to get their way.

That would be an empty threat. Just like in the past. I don't believe for a second, that anyone in F1 would take that seriously. Ferrari and F1 need each other. I don't see what Ferrari have to benefit from leaving. Not to mention that I don't think any Italian would dare to make that decision. Kind of like ****ing on Enzo's grave.

I wouldn't be so sure of that considering the IndyCar project Enzo oversaw. Sure it was a bargaining chip to get the new F1 regulations changed to his liking, but the amount of effort that went into the car is certainly indicative that Enzo was willing to commit to leaving F1 for IndyCar if he didn't get his way.

This thing is from two years ago. What does that have to do with the two week old new owners in F1? It's a test mule, let go of the theories. Put some of this wasted brain power to better use like, is salted caramel the ultimate ice cream flavor? Or, strategies that could have won over that girl in high school 20 years ago because you are so much smarter now. Stuff like that.

Ferrari GT racing boss Antonello Coletta told Motorsport.com: "We are around the table with the other manufacturers, but we can't say if we are interested or not interested.
"We need to understand what is happening, but if the new category is not so expensive, a lot of manufacturers could be interested." https://www.motorsport.com/wec/news/...-regs-1035091/ |
