Norrgard, your link has had the effect I suspect you wanted it to, which was to send me to your website where I found some great movie downloads at the bottom of the home page.
I've been told by a few people about Ari Vatenen driving Pike's Peak, but I've never seen it until now. Well worth the 66mb download! Oh, and yes, I voted ... |

Interesting...
Here's my top 6 1. Richo (nobody can jump into an unknown car at his age like he can, that takes real talent!) 2. Mark Webber (Gotta have our F1 star up the top) 3. Mark Skaife (did you expect anything else? ) 4. Ryan Briscoe (Our next big thing) 5. Craig Lowndes (He's lost his shine in the last few years, but still shows glimpses) =6. Marcos Ambrose (quick but needs to work on his overtaking skills) Greg Murphy (Pure guts and determination mixed with raw talent, winning combination) |

Paul Morris is right to be on that list. The guy is a star, which the run in the 911 at Bathurst showed in a big way. And should do very well in the Trans Tasman Porsche series too!
Glenn Seton is also a star, perhaps slightly faded for now, but should be given credit for some of the good setup up work at FPR when they actually get to test the car. The Bathurst speed was no fluke, Glenn made the right changes and the car went handled like a dream... |

Im voting craig, his raw speed on cold tyres and in cars undeserving of any sort of pace shows he still has it. when all is right with his team/car he will win again. As for mark webber, its only a matter of time before he breaks in to the winners circle.

My vote went to Jim Richards as i believe that to win as many different categories as he has in Australian motorsport puts him in a class of his own.

My top vote would also go to Jim Richards. The man is a legend in many categories. Smooth, fast and ultra competitive. A great ambassador for us baby-boomers. Targa Tasmania, Porsche Cup, V8 Supercars, whatever - it doesn't make much difference.
My other votes would go to (2) Marcos Ambrose after a great year - and for being an ultra-nice guy that no-one could take exception to. Being a Sprintcar freak, I'd give (3) Max Dumesny a big vote in here. A terrific family man, supporting his 16y.o. son Mitchell in one of these 800hp, 1200lb racecars. Who said turning left in one of these beasts was easy? Max has won in NASCARs, driven competitively in Supercars, and been Australia's best in Sprintcar racing for twenty years. Howdy neighbour. Greg Murphy gets my (4). The guy is quick, ultra-competitive - and gets results. He wears his heart on his sleeve, and Supercars needs more like him. My (5) would be Australia's best driver in Supercars - Mark Skaife. Love him or hate him, the boy is good. Very good. IMHO, the very best in our premier category. Saddled with his added responsibilities, he can still race at the front with the best. I acknowledge our Aussie ex-patriots racing overseas, and give Mark Webber and Ryan Briscoe my (6) and (7). Maybe Mark will jump up about six spots in my own estimation within twelve months. Just being an F1 driver won't automatically do it. My congratultaions just for getting there. 8, 9 and 10 can be shared by Greg Ritter, Warren Luff and Todd Kelly. They've all proved themselves in single-seater racing, and all are headed for better things. Todd has a great spot at HRT, and Greg and Warren will find themselves in similar good rides soon. Forget the SORF factor. They still need to be talented and quick. That leaves IMHO, good talents like Mark Winterbottom, Cam McConville and numerous others in FF, karts and Konica - and Speedway. I couldn't find room in my list for some of motor-sports best drivers. Those who race through forests on dirt. There's a whole new lot of drivers there. Personally, I'd like to see Brooke Tatnell and Kerry Madsen in some other form of motorsport apart from those wussy Sprintcar things. Both guys are dedicated and quick. They just need to get used to cars with a lesser grunt-factor than those 800hp, 1200lb racecars that race on dirt. Last edited by Aarrgh8; 20 Dec 2003 at 10:29. |

How about Will Power?
He would have to be the quickest of the young guns by far, with all respect to the brothers Kelly et al. |

Forget Webber, he is the best the openwheeler driver Australia has produced for some time (an F1 driver no less!), Skaife would have to be No 1, Lowndes carrying a car that should not be where it is 2nd, give Ambrose a few more years yet, Murphy is a front runner only!

Maybe we should do a poll of this based on a personal top 5, votes given in reverse order (5 for 1st etc) and figure it out that way? I'll do the maths (in Excel so I don't stuff it up) if anyone is willing to vote

I think talent should be gauged on and off the track. Maybe antic's such as skaifes at the creek , jimmy richards at bathurst , with skaife ,"your all a pack of A....... holes" , should be added into the arguement.Paul morris , he has had few massive brain fades over the years .Greg murphy -whinge whinge etc etc etc .I think people like - PETER BROCK , CRAIG LOWNDES ,MARCUS AMBROSE ,MARK WEBBER , MICK DOOHAN are the complete talent package , THAT BEST REPRESENT AUSTRALIA
