Vale Sir Frank Williams
So sad to wake up this morning to the news that one of the sports greatest team owners, whose name lives on today in our sport has passed.
My Condolences to his family friends and all in the F1 community and fans who respected and liked him. (or thought of him as a "worthy foe") The Williams team won the F1 drivers’ title seven times and the constructors’ championship on nine occasions under Sir Franks’ stewardship, although the most recent triumphs came in 1997. I hope they mark a minutes silence or black armband for drivers or stripe/sticker on all the cars this week. He deserves to be remembered and honoured Sir Francis Owen Garbett Williams CBE 16 April 1942, - 28 November 2021 |

My condolences. What a legend of the sport. His devotion and enthusiasm was relentless and he dogmatically kept Williams purely Williams until the end. Even when selling, he passed the team to owners who maintained the name and have progressed the team.

The various BBC Horizon Williams documentaries are compulsory viewing. I think there's one from '83, '88 and '93 IIRC. Sir Frank, Sir Patrick, Alan Jones and Carlos Reutemann debriefing, chatting casually but attentively, in a Winnebago seems quite different to modern driver-engineer debriefs (I guess it isn't really I suppose, F1 is still much the same as it always was).

Patrick Head. Removing skirts. It’ll be a hiccup in the process of development that will slow us down for a short while.
Brilliant. The sage. |
