Gentilozzi plans switch from Trans-Am
Team set for IRL and ALMS next year

Three-time Trans-Am champion Paul Gentilozzi is quitting the category to take his Rocketsports team to the Indy Racing League and the American Le Mans Series.

The plan is for the outfit to run in five or six IRL races, including the Indianapolis 500. The team will use Dallara chassis, while the choice of Toyota or Honda engines is being weighed up. A driver has yet to be named.

Gentilozzi himself will drive a GTS-class car in the ALMS, with a second run for a customer.

He explained why he is leaving Trans-Am. "It's time to grow up," Gentilozzi told Autoweek. "We've had a great time in this series but it's not as much fun as it used to be. We need to take the people who have given their professional lives to this team and give then an opportunity to grow."
