Maybe the dude on the right hand side needed somewhere to put his wig, tash and shades set when he'd finished prowling around the paddock

driftwood has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
Martin Birrane raced the ex Strawson capri in 76 or 77 shared with Tony Rosen

Maybe Alan but I don’t think incorrect articles and poorly researched ones at that are worth publishing – I like things to be correct when in black and white.
The only reason the cars are rarely seen is what can they do? Even when they are shown our author can’t even get the names of them right!!

Gregor, I could not agree more about the need for accuracy. One of the problems that I am meeting in trying to build up a season by season account is the variations in the contemporary reports. For instance Bill Cox's Capri is sometimes said to be Chevy-engined and sometimes Chrysler-engined. The two different makes are also used for Martin Kent's Rapier.

Would it not be wonderful if the Silverstone Classic had a display/parade of special saloons (and maybe thundersaloons)?

2009 Silverstone Classic Saloon Car race was open to all, they would have accepted both sets of cars (they wanted the older stuff to be competititve against the Super Tourer stuff), so maybe the same this year.

Here's a couple of interesting vids with an Irish connection. They're from the street races that took place in Dun Laoghaire in the mid 1980s. You'll get a glimpse of the Irish GTs from back then including George Crozier's Maguire Metro and even Col's Imp driven by his dad, Dan. I thought I saw Maurice Mitton's space-framed Imp in there as well.

Yep... looking forward to it. I see Marcus Pye's done a nice feature in today's Autosport mag on it.

In that same picture , is the Escort running next-but-one on the road Wrecker Madchap's ? This was powered by a David Wood BDG , which met its demise in the back George Bevan's 2 litre Sunbeam Stiletto at Snetterton whilst chasing Mick Whiting's V6 Escort down the Revett straight .

I remember your Escort well ; always immaculately prepared , and tidily driven . Please give my regards to Steve when you next see him .
i know this was written some time ago but i have only just looked at it. just to give you the correct info zekia redjeps bdg sold to george bevan was not a david wood lump! this was built by spike at race engine services. i think you will find that dave had gone bancrupt by this time and gone back to being a univercity lecturer. i am led to believe that he is now the engine designer for mg cars

1867/8 Mallory Park Photographs.

Hi all, just found a couple of old grainy 35mm slides taken in the Paddock at Mallory Park in 1967, possibly 68. I was racing my second Anglia at the time, having written of the old Anita Taylor car. The Paddock hasn't changed much over the past 44years really. The small boy in the one picture is now in his forties. Remember the Dunlop Tyre? The other picture is a shot of the Paddock from another angle. Note the old viewing stand, where the modern building is now. What a close up view of the start we had back then. The old Anglia is poking it's nose into the picture too.

1973 1.lite CosBay unit Bill!

Just found this. It's a bill I had to pay for work on my MAE 1,000cc unit.
Look at the prices and imagine what this lot would cost today!
£173.87.

Blimey! An arm and a leg back then.

ps in the photographs taken at Mallory above, that should read 1967 NOT 1867.

Its around £2,540.00 in today's money. Not sure if you get much in the way of work done on a modern full race engine for that kind of money today though.

My Special Saloon Days slideshow on YouTube.

For all you nostalgia fans and the very old amongst us, I've just put a slide show compilation on You Tube. If your interested, go to YouTube and enter: Gerry Taylor, or Saloon Car Racing in the 1970's.
I had to change the background music, as I hadn't got copyright clearance, so instead of NXS it's .....a Boogie-Woogie piano, which I suppose fits quite nicely.
Enjoy!
Gerry.

The Golf looks great.

Just remember that you can see some of these great cars racing again on August Bank Holiday Monday at the CSCC Malory Park race meeting. Many of them will also be testing on the morning of 28 June at Mallory, too, as part of a test/ PR session.

Two photos from Donington GT'S. Dudley Wood's Porsche 935. Dudley later raced at Le Mans. Also this Imp was also racing at the same meeting.
