Michelins proposal
Did anyone read about the proposal Michelin made to the FIA the other day? (I think it was in Autosport?)
Basically, Pierre Dupasquier made an approach to Max Moxley with the following suggestion: All teams at GP's can practice with any set of tyres from any manufacturer involved and at a certain time they choose what tyre manufacturer they want to use for the weekend. The FIA rejected it of course, because of the commercial problems it may cause. But Dupasquier and Michelin have said that they would have no problems with any such problems. So basically if Bridgestone said the same, this could be a feasible rule. I feel that this would be the next best thing to having just one tyre manufacturer and the tyre advantage could swing from different teams from weekend to weekend. Thoughts? |

I still don't think it would stop a Red car winning every now and then.

I think Pierre had his tongue firmly in cheek at the time.

luke, as far as I know, the objective of changing rules is to slow cars down, not to specifically slow red cars

Yes, this is independent of slowing Ferrari down, quite a few threads are!
I like the idea, but yes Dupasquier was just being Dupasquier. A little (or mores so?) like Bernie with his suggestions. While there is possibly a serious point to which he may be hinting it is not always meant to be taken literally. |

If this happened,f1 would be more interesting on occasions and certainly free up one area of argument .But still the top teams would (mostly) stick like glue to one brand- there is more benifit in customising a car to the tyres than having to do a complete setup for different construction tyres every weekend
