That is the worst part of it. And of course, the crests on the Mulsanne straight are pretty dangerous if you catch the tow of a car ahead at the wrong point.

You'd do a Webber.

Or a Dumbreck, which was even scarier.

Design changes these days have, as far as I know, made that much less likely though.

RWC should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Strange-i remember Shu saying not long back that he's not at all interested in anything but f1
Mostly due to f1 being too important but also he had serious safety worries

The danger is that a one make series would be far more interesting than the actual F1 race.

In the ROC scenario, I'd like only drivers who didn't run more than half races in the former season were elligible. So we (and teams) could see newcomers or test drivers performing in race conditions.

Teams could run more than two cars if they want. A part of F1 money would be payed to teams according at this event (to make it attractive and, in fact, almost mandatory). Rules would be relaxed in a determined way to let teams experiment things as Brown said.

If FIA doesn't introduce some "attractive" thing (e.g. money) then I suppose it would degenerate rapidly in an empty race.

The best venue for this would be Silverstone, as a former Grand Prix venue.............

Or Brands. I saw Rosberg in the FW08 in 82 with Sullivan getting his chance in the Tyrrell. Great race which was made even better by the state of the grained tyres on rosberg's car. Yet he was still flinging it round Druids like it was the first lap.

Come to think of it...why doesn't the world championship allways work this way?????
Because were stuck with the present garbage series
No, because motor racing, especially F1 has never just been about the drivers. It's about the different cars, the different teams, different drivers, and how all these things interact. Variety is the spice of life, as they say, and if anything, modern F1 cars are too alike. There is lots wrong with modern F1, but making all the cars the same is not the answer. In fact, look at the one-make series there are. OK, sometimes a good driver can make the difference, but there will still be some teams or cars that are somehow better and give their driver an edge.

As for the idea of a Race of Champions, I think that it makes sense. I agree with Schummy that you would have to make it worthwhile for the teams, but different formats could be tried and the drivers would race for the sake of racing, rather than sit back and take a certain number of points.

First idea: have a race without pitstops...
