What a stunning event! IMHO better than the Revival circus with more eclectic and interesting groups of cars. I was amazed how knowledgeable many of the spectators were and it was noticeable how many were watching the racing rather than prancing about in fancy dress, especially on Sunday. As usual the Goodwood organisation was superb and as a number have said the racing was excellent, particularly Ollie Bryant and Andy Shepherd.

It seems all the tenthers came away happy. Both Simon's and Peter's cars looked great. Personally it was my first time out in my Attila Chevrolet - rather a step up from an FIA MGB, Grantura or Marcos 1800! The car ran without fault and the driver started to move a little towards its potential - ie under 1m 30s and 147mph through the speed trap on Lavant straight.

Here's some in-car of the formation lap and the first couple of laps of the Surtees Trophy. I finished 18th of 27 starters. If I lose 100kgs and gain 120bhp, I still wont be able to keep pace with Chris Goodwin!

FISCracer,

that is great onboard footage and very much appreciated.

Well done, especially as it was first time out in the beast.

Before putting my thoughts of the weekend down on "paper" I'd just like to thank all of those who came to see us, or stopped me in the paddock to offer encouragement and (in some cases) humorous abuse! The names who spring immediately to mind are Simon Hadfield & Simon Drabble, Jerry Knight, Old Git Streeter, Gary Clarke, Delta (via t'interweb), Gregor Marshall, Holman Blackburn and others who I am really struggling to list. Also Jeff Allam's sister and her husband Jim(?) Bracey (who originally built my car with Dave Price), spent a long time talking to me and undertook to look out some original info.

I'm currently in the BA lounge at T5 so will put something together during the flight.

Thought it was a brilliant weekend. Spent the weekend marshalling at the chicane, lots of entertainment, great company and nothing serious to deal with. Perfect!

Have to say, the weekend had the feel of a genuine 'quality club meeting', it will make it even harder to endure the commercialisation and silly dressing up that in my opinion demeans the Revival. We have gallery and reports from the 72nd Meeting at www.retro-speed.co.uk.

Great photos Peter! I saw the highlights and think I am the first car home not to spin or hit anybody else (although it came quite close at times!). The headmaster should have been pleased. Perhaps next year they will plant poppies?

It was the 'reverse Colditz' move that did the trick.

Very nice. its a bit quicker than a Cortina, barely time to re-light your pipe between corners.

Richard - a follow up to my YouTube comments. I really enjoyed your drive, and your YouTube Goodwood videos. I has hoped to talk to you first thing Sunday morning - your car was in the paddock but you seemed not to have put your alarm clock an hour forward...

Can you advise the best source of Attila history? I saw Roy Pierpoint wrestling the Mk3 Ford around the Crystal Palace in 2 races in 1964 and Tony Lanfranchi the Mk3 Chevvy in 1965 - alas no races completed. Also Julian Sutton in the Mk9 Chevvy at the 1966 Guards Trophy.

Are you planning on other races this year?

regards

Finally got time to sort through some photos from the weekend. Always difficult to know where to start with photos from such an extensive meeting so I thought a few posts of 'Tenthers' may be appropriate.

Good to meet Peter Mallett at long last - the Rover looked and sounded superb. Took me back to the days when I used to drive them albeit with slightly different markings . First couple are from the qualifying session, the next three are Peter in the first race.

Brilliant, thank you very much Gary.

Regrettably, I missed Roger Wills from my previous post about folks who offered encouragement. Roger was out in our race in the Brut 33 Capri. Apologies Roger.

A few from the Surtees Trophy of Marcus Mussa (including taking the flag) and a couple of Richard Evans (FISCracer I think?).

Very bad luck for Simon Drabble in the Sears Trophy. I managed a couple of images in qualifying and similar at the race start / end of lap 1 where his Jaguar was in view.

Probably no consolation but it looked superbly well prepared - I saw it in the paddock a couple times but unfortunately didn't time my visits well enough to meet Simon.
