Maybe I have softened up a little since my 'lay-off'' ?.. but there was very little of "your'e alongside chap, your corner" in evidence. It was after all, no more than a (private) club meeting. |

A few of Rudolf Ernst in the Brabham Trophy. First one in qualifying, second on the formation lap, the rest in the race.:

Thanks very much Gary, yes it is me. They're the best on track pictures I have. As it was my first race in the beast I would be very grateful if anyone else has any action pics

The previous owners of my car Allan Ross-Jones and Charles Cook had extensive reseach done on both mk3/2 (mine) and Attilas in general. I was not aware that there was a Mk9, you may mean Mk7 which is a chevy engined monocoque and still exists - was sold in Belgium a couple of years ago. I certainly want to do some more in the Attila but I am signed up for a full season with NKHTGT the Dutch FIA championship in my Marcos, so it will probably be testing somewhere a bit safer than Goodwood and the odd one or two events. Maybe Brands Masters or Spa Summer Classic. |

Awesome event, we had the mighty Sam Hancock driving our Ecurie Ecosse lister, anyone got any good pics from the salvadori cup ? I can't seem to find them anywhere, do you reckon they will launch a serious series after the Gerry Marshall cup ?

Car 21 wasn't he? No particularly clear photos I'm afraid - there's a couple of distant / blurry examples from the dusk practice on Saturday and a couple of lap 1 photos with him in the 'pack' just after the start:

I have taken this from another site, referring to a video of the Gp 1 race, "An excuse was need to witter on about the Gerry Marshall trophy from yesterday's Goodwood Members' Meeting again. Fortunately, one has emerged in the form of this highlights reel. Some of the editing isn't ideal, with the action switching just as you want to fully enjoy a car roaring past, but it's difficult not to smile nonetheless. At any straight the Camaros tear past everything, there are Minis screaming round on three wheels and Tiff Needell resorts to barging rivals in an attempt to pass. Great stuff". Did Tiff Needell resort to "barging? Was the car damaged, if so, who pays? Peter may have a comment. In any case, if "barging" did occur I don't think it is "great stuff". |

Tiff didn't resort to barging. There was a Capri that suddenly slowed dramatically going into the chicane, I watched it from the pits. Yes a bit of a ding in the front of my car but nothing to get uptight about, it will pull out and won't be noticeable. He is a very committed driver, but he also spent a lot of time encouraging me and being extremely sociable. He demonstrated that the car is quite capable of running at the front with very little development. A testament to the skills and outright effort put in by Ken Clarke and his team.
As far as driving standards are concerned I had a BMW 530 almost take the front of my car off in race one because it was going so unfeasibly fast into St Mary's. That was being driven by the owner not the VIP and I had to take avoiding action. Also whilst I am guilty of baulking Nick Swift (I really couldn't see him whilst I was overtaking another car) he was so ungracious about it I could have been forgiven for doing the opposite of apologising, which is actually what I did. My report is here: http://mallettracing.blogspot.co.uk/. Apologies for not putting something specific here but I wanted to share it elsewhere. |

But, PA means FIA compliant car and Papers, International licence for the driver and racing in Europe. And they are at the top end of race costs. So MRL perhaps, they now race mostly in UK to escape the darn FIA licence rule, so a cheaper option. Still too expensive? Then CTRCC could tick the box. Looking at the cars at Goodwood and who they belong to, I doubt if more than a few will be seen at other races. BTW I would be delighted to be proved wrong........ |

By way of a change from all this 'modern stuff' - here's a bit of pre-war action Bugatti-style. Thankfully they all missed the spinner at Madgwick's.

Great photos, thanks for those Gary, I meant they as in championships, ie ones who get invited to places like silverstone classic brands masters etc, hopefully the crowds won't get too big at next years Goodwood.
I spoke to tiff after the race, I don't think I've seen anyone smile so much, got to love tiff, genuinely nice guy !! |

Having said the above I appreciate that none are races solely for Gp1 cars. I don't think that is a viable option at he moment...... Last edited by Mike Bell; 2 Apr 2014 at 20:03. Reason: Correction |

Colin, I guessed as it was entered as 'Walkinshaw' car that it was an RS2000 but appreciate the confirmation. Yes, I saw Alec was down to drive it- conrods apparantly the weakest component in a Gp1 Pinto......

My best speed down Lavant was 147 but Jon Minshaw was pulling 165 but he has at least 700cc on me which probably means 100 ft.lbs and up to 130bhp. It was 141 on that first lap I was consciously being circumspect as it was my first time out with the Attila. The white Lotus 30 failed to finish on lap 8 so it may have been his oil and I passed the green one at Fordwater on the last lap. 3 secs faster at the end and I would have been in front of the Crossle, the Marina Rolls and a McLaren. If.... |

But not Chinese ones !
Petes incident at the Chicane is similar to what you can see in Marcus video, wildly varying lines and braking points, Goodwood is fast and a lot of people don't go there very often if at all. MIni drivers . . .I've heard another prominent Goodwood A series racer ranting , apparently they're never wrong, at least this particular one isn't. never once in over 30 years apparently. |
