Yes, i too struggled to make it to the end of the race Sato....hehehe.

Dani, I couldn't possily fast forward it. There are other elements that are great to watch that aren't in nowadays races. The variety in the cars, the sliding, Gilles.

God it's great!

deeks6 User has been fined for unsportsmanlike behaviour!
Speaking of 79, you might also want to re-look at the Zolder, Austria (battle for 3rd), Zandvoort and Watkins Glen races.
Personally, I think the Montreal race between Jones and Villeneuve was the best of the year and one of the best ever ... but the Dijon race gets all the credit, presumably because of all the banging and sliding.

I was at the Glen for Gilles' great win in '79. My dad drove to New York City to pick me up at College -interrupting the moves I was so close to completing on a very lovely Barnard Freshman (who was never to speak to me again I might add)-and we drove through the night to pitch our tent in the rain. We sat in the rain through practice on Saturday, walked around in the mud and ate in the rain,-got tear gassed near the Bog and froze our butts off. It was one of the best weekends of my life. That includes the only speeding ticket I have ever gotten courtesy of a County Cop outside of Ithaca.

As for the race, it was thrilling. Gilles sidewise uphill through the Esses....brilliant. He toasted everyone that day, and it wasn't because the car and team and pitstop strategy were better than anyone elses; it was because he DROVE better than everyone else in absolutely appalling conditions.

the 'good ol days'....hmm, well they were good and now they're old. there were some very good races, and there were more than a few 'snoozefests' as it were.
