Popped into Trengwainton today and the track and foliage had been cleared. The concrete looks amazingly well preserved, but still rough. I have added the 2011 pics to the other pics I have and posted them here in some order.

Superb Sir! Just showed my parents as they are up to stay, and as NT members they regularly walk down there but were gobsmacked to see pics of bikes running down there. Dad said take a few MX bikes up there and it will soon be clear.

Westbrook Hay, nr Hemel Hempstead - this is now the driveway to a prep school. (My wife used to work there - nobody at the school remembered the hillclimb). The track is now lined on either side by a stout fence to keep the Belted Galloway cattle in.

Great Auclum, nr Reading - The track is mostly still there, including the banking, but is in a terrible state. I took a Mallock there a few years ago for a tv programme and there was no way you could drive on it. A large housing estate has been built right up to the edge of the track.

If I remember correctly Valance hill climb was finished when the school put in lighting columns on the driveway. Will never forget watching Jim Tiller in his Allard every year

The MSA would no longer permit the event as after the lamposts were installed it failed to meet safety requirements.

Anyone remember Bodiam? Competition ceased there after a change of ownership.

Yes I remember Bodiam and I think the roadway is still unchanged.

In the Kent & Sussex area there was also Firle (Bo Peep Hill), Sedlescombe (Pestalozzi Village), Great Farthingloe (nr Dover) and Stanmer Park (Brighton). I also have happy memories of Brunton (Wilts).

I've been working on a history of Bodiam here:

Can anybody say when the last meeting was held? Can anybody add anything? [I need to write this down before the years catch up with me.]

What a superb thread, great reading guys. I've never heard of the places you mention and but it's wonderful to hear about them and see pictorial archives.

Does any one know of any old long gone such venues in the Peterborough area? It would be nice to go and investigate them and post any updates on here.

What happens to old hillclimb venues?

They go downhill.

Nearest venue to Peterboro would be Gransden Lodge, but that was a circuit I think. Hill Climbs are few and far between in those parts.

I see this thread is still alive, well I visited Trengwainton late last year as I heard the NT had cleared the trees and exposed the concrete again. So I have updated the photo collection. You could almost smell the Castrol R.

I know it's a bit flat round 'ere innit?

Just did a bit of snooping and you might be correct.
Gransden Lodge is an airfield and home to Cambidgeshire Gliding Centre.

Well before anyone's time (I guess) but Kop Hill near Princes Risborough was a leading venue from 1910 to 1925 - and is the reason closed road racing was banned in this country.

It has now been revived and in September each year a demonstration event (no timing) is held on the closed road. Last year we have 12,000 spectators over the two days and raised over £50k for local charities.

Firle, Bottisham, Ditcham...

Firle Hill Climb refused to go away:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rAye...&feature=share

Bottisham Speed Trials near Cambridge are worth recalling:

https://revslib.stanford.edu/?per_pa...utf8=%E2%9C%93

The airfield is still there with small flying museum.

What about Ditcham Hill Climb, near Petersfield, Hampshire?

Response to a post that's years old, but Oddicombe was actually stopped because someone realised it was still a public road, so the 30mph speed limit applied.

With the recent change to the law it was investigated whether it could return but a few things stood in the way. Firstly, the bottom paddock is considerably small following years of abuse by the see (although it would probably still be workable by moving paddock to the top and convoying down in batches). Secondly, the inspection by the MSA (as it was at time) suggested that it would require full armco for virtually the full length of the hill. Given that the local clubs and councils don't really have the kind of money to do that, the hill remains a memory
