I'm looking forward to seeing this car. A full Gascoyne (sic?) car should be rather interesting. This may be Toyota's year to surprise.

Toyota Lauch

Toyota will become the first F1 team to unveil their 2005 car on today, Saturday, 08, January. The team will launch their new TF105 chassis at the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona.

2005 will be a crunch year for Toyota, with the team’s paymasters indicating that they must start picking up results soon.

Photos of the new car here http://www.toyota-f1.com/public/2005...ss_index.html#

I'm liking it, they seem to have 'cleaned up' the scribbles aspect of the livery and got for more solid looking red patches.

The only thing I don't like are the rear wing endplates, they're HUGE!

The rear wing looks truly horrid, bass the bucket.
Lets hope the FIA don't like it and ask them to change it.

the rear wing is reminiscent of some GP cars from the early to mid 80's

Mmm, see what you mean. I don't much like the wings on the sides of the airbox either, but I suspect that will be trend for this season as the teams try to regain lost downforce because of the new Regs.

The chimneys on the edge of the sidepods are an interesting feature.

I think this car is a good sign that everyone's design won't look identical this year.

But it's all fluff at the moment, isn't it - the teams aren't going to show off their best stuff until the start of the season...no sense in giving the opposition a taster of what's to come.

Looking at it a bit more, I'm pleased that Toyota finally have a car that looks like a modern F1 car - the past few years the car looked like something from 98/99 - all boxy and aerodynamically lacking...Gascoyne has got a thing about backsides, I think.

The car looks pretty much as you'd expect from Gascoyne - very compact plus those super-large sidepod chimneys. Interesting that they claim over 900bhp and say that the engine has no power loss compared to 2004 but obviously with double the life. I guess that will be a minimum for everyone, although maybe they will have to manage the engine much more carefully now, with the second part of the first race for each engine being more gently run..? Hmm.

The sketch pictures (on F1Live and Toyota) give a pretty clear explanation about the new aero regulations. The new rear wing surely is a monster - but hey, whatever works.

There are some interesting and detailed remarks in the launch stories about which areas have been focussed on with the new car - the rear part being one of them, with all new and much stiffer transmission and suspension assemblys.

Looks nice. The one thing that really strikes me is how high the front wing is. The wing changes made by the FIA are really quite visually noticable this year.
Nice to see that Toyota have stuck with the same ugly old paint job.

The drawings are also on this site (at the bottom) http://www.pole-position.dk/050108.php

The rear wing has really changed a lot since last year!

The rear wing looks terrible & it looks strange seeing a F1 car with so much ground clearance at the front but hey whatever works within the rules I guess.

They'll just have to mount the cameras around the tracks higher so we don't notice the offroad suitable nose...

I have to agree, thoose larger rear wing endplates look hideous! I thought it was bad enough last year, but now they are awful.... the car looks badly unbalanced asthetically, when looking from the side anyway....
I personally don't noticed the raised front wing as much as the rear it has to be said....

Overall the Toyota looks fairly similar to the renaults Gascoyne had a hand with, especially around the sidepod area, the bodywork looks quite tight around the gearbox.

It has a very aggressive stance, and looks fast just sitting still.

I just hope the car is faster then the web-site! Geez, is that slow!

The first thing I noticed are the radiator exit funnels. They are very big, but it looks like this extra venting has allowed a well packaged rear end (I imagine, underneath those tea tray side winglets.

Those side winglets - the ones that start half way up the sidepod, just above the S on this photo
- remind me of an indycar style side winglet.

The huge rear end plate that Silkcut mentions is also reminiscent of an indycar.
