I'm actually suprised how close the GT1 cars are to the sprint spec DTMs.

Will be interesting to see what the works Astons, Maseratis and Vettes could do.

Yes they can - see the 'ring 24 hours (Opel & Audi have run modified DTM cars for the past couple of years)

How long does a DTM engine have to last? All season? Then they could easily do 24 hours

Exatcly, modified, and the GT2 M3 GTR (with a few tweaks) qualified right in the middle of the DTM pack.

DTM chassis are stripped to to their bare minimum, and ballast used for the sprint races.

In endurance spec all of the components have to be beefed up.

DTM cars are limited on horsepower (4 liter V8 producing 470 hp) compared to FIA GT cars (V12 producing over 600 hp), while both weigh around 1100 kg.
