Good grief indeed....I've already decided that all modern cars will be scrapped because of "electronic" faults rather than mechanical issues.......the cost are just ridiculous....electronic components that cost pennies are failing, but the diagnostics and the integrated circuits needed to replace them are ludicrously expensive. I may have to investigate a mass market conversion to points and distributors.... |

What is happening to a certain extent is that where a common failure occurs- to something like a dashboard, for instance- specialists are repairing them on an exchange basis. If the market is big enough, someone will take it on. Remember reading that someone has redone the electronics of the original Towns 'wedge' AM Lagonda digi dash (that failed very quickly and often) with modern components. OK, hardly mainstream, but guess the cost reflected that! |

Stick it on Autogas and it will get round all those problems. Occassionally although it hasnt done it for a year or so my Chevy Blazer will not start as its one of thise problems where an errant signal from anywhere else can upset the immoboliser (UK version) and cuts off the fuel pump meaning it wont start. Simple solution force switch over to gas and start it on gas (it wil just needs cranking for about 10 seconds) and off you go move away from the signal source and its all OK again. If the injection ever packed in and was uneconomical to repair it would still run on gas same as my Dayvan now I have that converted, I would like to convert a race car if I can find a friendly Gas converter to sponsor it may be the way to go in future and certainly may help appease the greens.

After speaking to Al & Cliff at the Ace cafe i've decided what to do with the escort.
CTCRC post historic touring car,1600 xflow, seeing as i've got most of the major parts to build it I doubt it will be done for this season though. Only question is....Will it be eligible for any other series? |

As well as CTCRC we have run in CSCC Swinging Sixties and in Masters Stars of The Seventies, although as Masters was mixed with Touring 70s it wasn't much fun being constantly lapped. Also, there's always the 360 or Delta's 'Historic Mexico Challenge" |

I think important point is to keep bodywork standard- including front panel (no extra cooling holes) as it is straightforward to change oily bits to suit different regs |

The shell is standard apart from "4 link" boxes welded in the floor (i wont be using these).
Can i use World Cup xmember and eng. mounts? Where can i find regs for cscc,Masters etc? |

Just click on the series you're interested in and you can check out the regs....which aren't unduly restrictive...... |

As already stated, all regs on respective websites as pdf usually. Masters are missing at moment (maybe re-writing 2011) but Stars of 70s basically as CTCRC Classic Gp1. Good Luck! |

Elle va!
With apologies to the original users of that phrase! (Showing my age again )
I'm sure some will boast that every car they assemble or engine they rebuild bursts into life first turn of the starter.... That would be nice, but not always my experience. Occasionally I seem to come across one that has to be dragged kicking and screaming into life. Ladies and Gentleman, I give you.... the Porsche 924! (Sod off, not literally.) Yes- it is running. I would say 'sweet as a nut' but it is a VW van engine, so forget that analogy. First, couldn't get oil pressure. Removed filter and filled to top with oil- it goes on at 45 deg so first time didn't. Still no pressure. Senders for gauge and lamp both kaput. Disconnected fitting and turned over 'till oil appeared. Something there then. After that and many attempts at starting- fiddling with advance and cold start injector, swapping coil, by-passing resistor etc, I resorted to heating up the plugs with a gas torch. Hey Presto! Although have studied the workings of it's Bosch FI there is still much to learn about the settings! Tickover adjustment at mo is case of either 'prone to stalling' or 'flaring', and judging by the Co in workshop before I opened doors very rich. But its GOING, so for that Did run a bit better after got strobe connected and tweaked advance a bit more. Fuel pressure is good, alternator charges well, nothing leaks so a result of sorts. Oh, hang on, temp gauge also not working- another dead sender! (Yes, I know mechanical ones don't have that problem...) |

Well done Mike :-) Sounds like a nightmare.
I too don't have oil pressure gauges working since I "delved into" the electrics...oh, and if only it were just a VW van engine, it's a VW van engine that has had the internals "improved" by a company that knows how to charge for parts LOL. |

I'll have to read the article, I've developed a bit of a 60's/70's C&CC habit lately!

Just remembered they did an artical on Delta back in time some when. We were well chuffed and also the bloke that did the trackside cooking for us as his Montego was in the mag as well.Happy days. Its all comming back now, they came to the workshop and we laid out a complete Delta in kit form on the floor, you know all the wishbones , chassis, uprights ect all very neat.Took blooming ages. Yea they never did use the photo. Where's Grant when you need him.

I have finnished the engine but still pondering on Carb's. Thought i had had a bit of luck last night as i collected Compte's new crankshafts from an engineer friend and he said he had a couple of 45 Webbers on the shelf going spare. Alas the cupboard was bare when he looked.I know i should buy two new ones but im sure as when i have done that someone will say"why did you not tell me ive got two in the shed". Its also the £600.00.
