I tried to watch the race but the links some of you guys gave me (thank you by the way!)kept freezing up and the WEC app kept crashing.i updated my iPad to ios8.1 which took forever so I just went to sleep.i woke up during the last fifteen minutes.looked like a good race,I just missed out.should be able to watch Brazil.
You are forgetting that diesel engine + transmission combo is about 40-50 kg more than a petrol equivalent. I would be more then ok for diesels to have the same amount of energy allowed as petrols (calorific value), and have the same MJ hybrid system as long as the petrol P1s have their minimum weight dropped by as much as the weight advantage they have over the diesel engine + transmission.

The gap would be even bigger than it is now. The diesels would match or may be a bit quicker in a straight line, but would be loose massive amount of time everywhere else.

What is up with that one ridiculous top speed for the #1 and #8? Did they get a really big tow that lap?

Seems like the Toyota and Porsche are both very consistent while the Audi fluctuates a lot, though sadly averaging below the others.

Finally finished watching the race!

Not sure why Hindy seemed so determined not to give Ant/Seb the driver's title after the flag. "They won't celebrate it yet / it needs to be ratified / on points they now cannot be beaten / they have an unassailable lead"

Erm, yes they will celebrate it. What are the fans supposed to think when all the graphics, interviews and team celebrations say otherwise?

God I love the guy, but it's bizarre really how he gets madly excited at a pass for fifth in GT-Am but not when a new champion is crowned.

Well... if for any reason Ant or Seb can't race in Brazil, then the one that can't race won't win the title. (this presuming that one of the guys in the #7 would step in to fill the gap) So on that basis, he's right: one of them is assured of the title, but it will take both of them actually running the race in Brazil to clinch the title for both.

They do have reserve a driver if it came down to it, a call to Caldarelli and then Conway could jump in the #8 instead of the regular drivers. That way they get team points without Davidson and Buemi one-upping the other. Wouldnt that work? Or is Conway restricted to the #7 since he ran in that car twice?

What would the situation be if the eight car has a problem and only one of them actually drives the car in the race

If the car doesn't complete 70% of the race and doesn't take the checkered flag, then there's no issue, the car is not a finisher and neither driver scores points, so they remain equal on points. There was a bit of ruckus on the forums last year about this when the #2 Audi broke in Bahrain before McNish could drive, but since the car wasn't classified as a finisher, none of the drivers scored and they all clinched the title together.

Audi were indeed running a lower DF setting. Once the hybrid boost ended they were quicker than the Porsche, and on the 2nd sector which has some corners they weren't really pulling any gap over the Porsche and Toyota.

That's why they were surprisingly competitive on this track that was supposed to be a "worst case scenario" for them, but then again this track really favors the higher MJ classes with lots of slow corners leading to a mid-length straights.

That's true, in WEC a car scores points if finishes the race or at least the 70% of winner laps are done. If a car achieves 70% it automatically means that both or all three drivers have driven for the min. time required to score points. In TUSC is different, if just the starting driver achieves the min. time required (basicly his first stint) scores points for him and for the team even if the car withdraws before to achieve 70% of winners laps.
At example this year in TUSC risi retired in first hours both in daytona and sebring, anyway malucelli and bruni scored points for drivers champ and team risi for team champ, but fisichella who was never able to drive the car before both crashes didn't score any point.

I believe the graph showing Audi with better(slightly) speed and greater volatility probably indicates that the team is try to squeeze anything out of the current energy allocation formula.
After all, it's three lap rolling average that matters. A R18 may run a lot more energy in one lap, yet cruising more on the other two.

Looks like they ran less wing. Looking at s2 times, they were behind Toyota. Then the top speed was closer to the Porsche/Toyota also. Maybe thats an illusion thanks to that back straight in s2?
