Isn't the Bentley...
Just a development of the car that was so lack luster that was ran by Audi UK in 1999? For all the hype about Benetly returning to Le Mans, it seemed like badge engineering at its finest to me. They even stuck a slightly modified Audi turbo in the back, although they say they have an inhouse project under development (a 12 cylinder maybe?).

Bentley is owned by the VW-Audi group anyway, so what is the problem, it was basically the Audi R8C GT Prototype from 1999, but with a different body and Audi R8 engine, maybe this shows Audi will pull out, as makes from the same company don't usually compete with eachother.

Why does this cause people such a problem??
Would you like to see a Ferrari badged as Fiat? Or perhaps a Ford DB7? Yes it's down to branding- thats how it works! Deal with it! As for the Bentley, the main thing is that the marque is now carried by cars not built by Rolls-Royce!! I'm fairly sure the car is a little more that 'just' a development of the R8C- it takes more than a little development to take a 'lackluster' car from two years ago onto the podium! Does anyone know how much the Speed 8 and the R8C actually have in common? I know the Bentley is a very different shape and the engine is a version of the R8, but what about the rest- chassis, suspension, electrics etc etc? Or are they really R8C's with some filler and green duct tape? |

A quick search around the 'net reveals that the only thing the Speed 8 shares with the R8C is the engine block- and only for 2001!
Have a look at http://www.mulsannescorner.com/audir8c.htm and http://www.mulsannescorner.com/bentleylmgtp.htm |

I defientely take exception to the simplification of the Bentley EXP as simply a Bentley-badged Audi R8C. That it is definetly not. Of course there is the obvious body work differences. Then there is that brand new tub. The Bentley uses X-Trac's customer gearbox while Audi currently uses a Ricardo box in the R8 so I'm assuming the R8C used one too in '99. To get the project up and running by Le Mans Bentley did have to dip into Audi's resources and run their well proven turbo V8. And while it is rumored that Bentley is working on a proper Bentely replacement for the Audi powerplant, I suspect we well still be seeing the Audi motor for at least another year.
