It loks like the future Russian GP at Sochi is in doubte following the death of its promoter and various other political problems. The French GP is not signed either with the new socialist government not keen on Paul Ricard leaving two future races in doubt. Bernie is ment to be quite worried about the Russian situation. There is also question marks over Korea. So Bernie's vision of 20 GP's is at risk.

Yeh, looking again, it really is going to be probably the quickest of the new tracks since say, Malaysia?

And I think it'll be quicker than that.

Talking about lack of fast tracks no one ever decides to build a new Monza, Spa, Le Mans or even old Osterreichring.
They keep putting in loads of stupid slow speed corners (see Abu Dhabi) its not even as if these circuits promote better overtaking.

On another matter 'street circuits' i really hope the new races in New Jersey and possibly Mara del Plata are more akin to Monaco or possibly Singapore. Anything but Valencia thats not a street circuit just a crap normal circuit near some walls. I would be happy to see Indycar style street circuits similar to the ones F1 raced in the USA during the 80s/early 90s. Fingers crossed for New Jersey...

Rant Over!

South Africa now looks to be a possible GP in 2015. At least it is country with motorsport history and should make an interesting addition to the calender. The circuit based in Cape Town is to be tempory using existing stadia for grandstands.

Sounds interesting. Not entirely up for another street circuit but the idea of using existing stadia is interesting.

Anyone got any maps/layouts for it?

Is Venezuela rumoured to host a GP soon? Given Maldonado's success and the fact that they have lots of money I would have thought it would have been rumoured at least.

Yeh there's rumours of everywhere, afterall.

You're right, though - especially given that they now have a national holiday after his win!

They have lots of money in the hands of Chavez, that's for sure.

There are rumours for a race in the moon, also...

Venezuelan society is split and it's the opposition, the business elites, that owns most of the private industry required to stage a race from scratch. Chavez might have access to money but is flatly hated by those Venezuelans with the know-how to commit to intensive capital projects.

I'll take a look around Selby. I've seen a few proposed layouts, but if memory serves, there were places on the latest Cape Town circuit I saw that were just impossibly narrow. I think one of the stadium transitions was as narrow as just one lane, and a couple of the good stretches at the far end of the course were only two lanes wide.

Stop & Go reporting that the Mexican GP will be back next year at Mexico City. Would be fantastic to see a great circuit return!

I'm REALLY not sure how great it would be if F1 returns to it. The story, for the planned A1GP return in 2009, was that there were going to have to be three chicanes installed at Peraltada. I don't even want to think about what F1 might want done to the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez now.

Here's one item I've dug back up about the possible Cape Town event.

Surely it'll take more than Pastor Maldonado winning one Grand Prix for us to be looking at a race in Venezuela?

Venezuelan society isn't divided like the tories versus labour or the ump versus the socialists as in France. It's not a simple good guy versus bad guy deal either. It's more complex like bastista versus castro stalemate where one side might pick up a weapon to give the offices of the opposition a good hammering. It's just not stable enough to run an event like a GP by miles.

Well that would be the logical conclusion and I agree they are, but most of the time in recent years it's mainly been about how much money a government/holding group has been willing to throw at Bernie for the rights to hold a race.

Alas, that's true. Perhaps President Chavez will hurl oil money at him (though F1 would hardly seem to sit particularly easily with his much-espoused socialism). A Brazil-Argentina double header would be great; Mexico could form a threesome with Canada and one of the US rounds?
