My crew came down to congratulate me in Parc Ferme only to find me not with the car, they asked where I had gone only to be told that I had been "taken away" by somebody I remember telling them in the medical centre that if I could find something to enable people to win races I could make a few bob |

Alcohol and racing has hit the news here in Aus today, with allegations that a driver breached the (CAMS) policy and failed an alcohol test at The Shannons Nationals meeting at Queensland Raceway last weekend.
CAMS have responded with a 'Yes we did tests but can't divulge results, positive or negative, '. They also re-iterated their policy on those who fail..... first failure sent home and an official warning. Subsequent failures.... On the second occasion a Participant returns a positive reading following a Confirmation Test, that Participant will be banned from any event for 6 months with an official letter recording said fact. A third failure results in a 2 year ban and the offender not being permitted to participate at any further events until successfully completing a recognised alcohol counselling program as specified by CAMS at the Participant’s own cost. https://www.speedcafe.com/2019/08/07...policy-breach/ |

A fair way to play the game Chris imo. They should divulge the results when they announce the decision. Happy that Beaujolais doesn't impress anymore, not event the breath analyser! Cheers…

Vauxhall Heritage Collection
I had an interesting day yesterday at the Vauxhall Heritage Collection in Luton. (Although this is just around the corner from where Baub lives, I know he's anxiously awaiting my report). They do have an impressive collection of cars and the staff seem very knowledgeable and passionate about the exhibits.
Here are a couple of pictures to show you what they have: Just a selection. Star of the collection (for me) a fully restored Viva GT! |

What spoils the images (not your photos, which are very good) is that all the car require oil drip trays under them. And the Viva GT obviously, despite it's restoration, needs one! |

To be fair, from what they told us, most of the cars in the collection are 'ready to go' but spend a lot of time stationary. I did pull the drip tray out from under the GT and that was bone dry (some of the others however were not!). |

Steve Cropley at Autocar is sometimes lent a car from the collection, and always reports well of the place and the condition of the cars. I did notice how close they are together- is that just lack of space or to discourage visitors opening doors.....

What was nice was that most of the cars were in 'genuine' and not over-restored condition. After the tour we were offered a ride in either a early Vauxhall Tourer (I didn't note the model), Droop Snoot Firenza or a 1970's Ventora. We opted for the Ventora (to remind me of my Dad's Victor of the same vintage) and as I'd owned a Droop Snoot myself didn't want to go out in that! |

Just before young Will’s comment about a 250GTO replica racing at Nurburgring OldTimer, the story broke about Ferrari having the model declared a ‘work of art’ in Italy, and in the process making the build of replicas illegal.
https://www.automobilemag.com/news/t...a-work-of-art/ The article does point out that existing replicas are unlikely to be affected, but you never know with Ferrari- I was with delta when he took the gorgeous 156 Sharknose replica to the factory for it’s owner, in order for it to be inspected by the big-wigs. (Dark suits and sun glasses, of course....) The museum were interested in using it in a display at some point, but the Classiche department had strict rules about non-original cars! Some nervous hours for the (brave) owner, but we left with the Sharknose intact, fortunately....... |

It's a difficult one. I have an original Group 1.5 Works Rover and it grates that others run replicas of my car. They don't suggest it's an original but it is annoying.
I also run an MGB which is definitely not an original racer. I built it from an original shell I bought on EBay. So i can see the vasic point Ferrari are making but if they had their way, we wouldn't see any GTOs anywhere other than a museum. |

It is a slightly difficult balance to arrive at . https://www.goodwood.com/grr/event-c...n-at-goodwood/ If this link has loaded , it shows the Central feature at Goodwood FOS . The original cars are extremely rare , & last year one of them sold for £ 17,500,000, making it the most expensive British ever . So no one would put up an original car for display . |

As the article I linked to states, Ferrari sought the ruling to stop one particular company in Italy building replicas. Not too big a worry for owners of existing cars, unless they take their car to the factory in order to try and get a Classiche certificate, of course!

Snow on the Mt Panorama (Bathurst) track! OK not a lot by Euro standards but more expected.
https://www.facebook.com/BathurstSES...2733459253136/ The ski-ing areas are rubbing their hands together with 75 cms falling at Mt Hotham, and all runs open. In Melbourne we have had 150kph winds and threats of 3 months rain to fall in 24 hours. Plus hailstorms. And its cold. Below freezing in some suburbs. 4C at the moment closer to the city where I am. Thankfully i'm escaping and orft to Spain for 6 weeks on Tuesday night. |

Of course you have your winter during the summer- during our summer, anyways! I remember while navigating our support truck between stages during Rally Australia getting most concerned that we were heading in the wrong direction. Then it clicked that the sun rose and set the other way round to the UK...... Phew.
Anyway, interesting that no where in the world is avoiding extreme weather events.... You could attend Monza or Spa Histo meetings from Spain without too much difficulty. |

This rather desirable piece of American IMSA and GpC history caught my attention because of one engine it was fitted with during its racing career- a 10.2 litre 32 valve quad cam V8! The engine builder was ‘Eagle Performance’ who I’ve not heard of before. Discounting aero engined specials and some pre-war cars, I’m wondering if this is the biggest displacement engine ever used in a relatively modern race car? Whatever, It’s cool in my eyes.....
https://www.bonhams.com/auctions/252...?category=list http://www.lolaheritage.co.uk/2018/r...leicester.html Now found more info about the engine..... https://www.carmrades-blog.com/all-a...1990-eagle-700 Last edited by Mike Bell; 10 Aug 2019 at 18:46. |

But, John, you are talking about probably 30 years ago since they moved the business from Radlett to St Albans. Living in the village at the time, I used to drive past the shop on a daily basis when in the country, and on many a weekend my sons and I would often stop to admire the items in the shop windows. |

Peter, your comments reflect the conundrum that faces the historic cars scene - what is a replica and what is a reconstruction? Having read your views about the big Rover that you have raced at Goodwood, I would personally deem your MGB as a reconstruction because you appear to want to follow the rules to the letter. I don't believe that replicas, which pretty well without exception, utilise modern materials and parts constructed using modern processes, have any place in historic racing. Whether people want to just display such machines is another matter. |

If you’d been about three or maybe four years ago you’d have seen at least one racing in Historic F1......... From memory main problem now is the special front tyre size.......
