Lotus 19 V8; Rim sizes

Various Lotus 19's were fitted in period with BOP 215cid aka Rover V8, Chevy V8 and Ford V8's

The question is, what width rims were used in period ?
I know that FPF powered Lotus 19 were fitted with 5" front and 6.5" rears all of 15" diameter.

You guys will know, I expect.

Kevin It all depens on which period. The Gurney 19 Ford has very wide Halibrands maybe 10" wide on the rear.

Ah, but that wasn't a 19. It was the one and only 19B

Kevin,

I would imagine early on in this period, that the cars raced with the same tires and rim sizes that were used / the 2.5 Climax engined cars. After all, there weren't any good mid-engined gearboxes capable of accepting great increase in torque and tires and not gotten lower and fatter quite yet. I believe the 1st reason for installing a V8 in place of the FPF was more for reliability sake, and maybe looking or less peaky power band, not ultimate power. Later, there were other aftermarket manufaturers of wheels that could have been used. I have a mid-60s period pair of beautiful 6-lug,6-spoke 13 x 10 American racing, magnesium wheels, should I ever elect to intall a twin-cam in my 20/22

Lotus 19 Rims

I can tell you that one Lotus 19, which was built for Rod Carveth and had an aluminum Buick used the standard rims. The car also had a Colotti gearbox.

Rod liked the BOP engine, and also had a Lotus 24 with the same configuration.

A Lotus 23 V8, the California Racing Partnership Special, ran originally in 1965 with, and still has, 13x8 American Racing magnesium wheels in front (4 lug) and 13x9 American Racing magnesium in the rear (6 lug). I have seen 8, 9 and 10 inch wide rims used in the rear.

I didnt know about the Lotus 24BOP, what did that run as, F libre car ?

The V8 Lotus 23 car, is that two Rochester 4 barrel carbs in the jpeg?

Most BOP V8s used the sidedraft Webers. This car used a welded tubular manifold. The photo below shows a manifold similar to the original manifold. The photo shows one of the three manifolds Phil Remington made for the Scarab BOP V8s. The dual Rochester manifold (those are two barrel carbs) was used just to get the car running again.
