As far as driving goes this is the ultimate test.I hope to be competing in a couple of years myself. If Jimmy keeps returning year in & year out it must have some appeal

Just been reading the latest entry list, and it seems to be lacking a lot of name drivers at this stage. Apart from Jimmy, wee Tony Quinn, Glenn Ridge and co, it seems we'll be waiting for some more last minute call ups..

Fantastic week of motorsport. I would sure like to participate. It throws up just about every driving challenge imaginable. I remember seeing a video with Quigley aquaplaning at about 180kph. A couple of 360's and it was all over. I get the feeling GSR that you are a navigator not a driver.

I've got a friend who does it annually, he reckons it's top fun, just about the highlight of his year, but he says you can't go much more than 7 or 8 tenths if you want to finish, the roads are just too blind and the conditions so unpredictable.

He says if you budget about 15 grand and don't have any big incidents you should come home with a bit of change. I'd love to have a go but that's way too much for me, plus there's the enormous logistical challenge.

And I seem to remember somebody borrowing top notch equipment and rolling the kart on the first lap

GSR, can you please confirm that Moffman, surprised by the power of the kart, panicked and without explanation proceeded to pull off the circuit but without looking over his shoulder, clipped the back of another kart and put it on it's lid!!

Surprised me so much that I was only 3 seconds a lap faster than you.........I do believe another kart ran into me but never let the facts get in the way of a good story eh!

Lock it in GSR

You now have a co-driver. All we need now is a car, money, experience, and in your case a bit more talent & ticker!

Monaro Targa Fuel Debacle

HOLDEN RECALL NOTIFICATION
The letter from Holden, dated March 2003, is as follows:
Dear Holden Customer,
In July last year (2002) Holden initiated a customer satisfaction rework regarding a potential fuel-gauge operating condition which may cause an incorrect indication of how much fuel remains in your tank and therefore may lead to your vehicle running out of fuel. Your vehicle
may be affected by this condition. As part of our commitment to your satisfaction, we are writing to you as our records indicate that your vehicle has not yet been reworked by a Holden Dealership.

Holden has received field reports that some vehicles have run out of fuel when the fuel gauge has indicated approximately one quarter full. Investigation into what causes this condition has revealed that a small amount of impurity in the fuel, which is considered a normal component of fuel, can affect the accuracy of the fuel
level sensor in the fuel tank.

What is Holden doing?

Holden has been working with the affected component supplier to manufacture revised parts that can tolerate this impurity, with no adverse impact on fuel gauge
accuracy.

Please contact the retailer of your choice to organise a vehicle booking and have the new part fitted. All work will be carried out free of charge.

What should you do in the meantime?

Your vehicle may experience erratic or unreliable fuel gauge readings with the possibility that the vehicle may run out of fuel, although the gauge is still showing one
quarter full.

Since it is uncertain whether your vehicle will develop the condition,Holden recommends you take one of the following precautions until you have the revised part fitted
to your vehicle:

(a) Maintain a fuel-gauge reading above ½ full, or
(b) Maintain a record of distance travelled since the last fuel tank fill by resetting the odometer or trip computer.

It is important to know that the 'Distance to
Empty' on the trip computer and the 'Low Fuel Warning' functions are also inaccurate if the fuel gauge is
reading inaccurately. Therefore only the 'Distance Travelled' is accurate.

Please note, the distance your vehicle can travel, with a full tank of fuel, can vary considerably-depending on the driving conditions. To be conservative, Holden
recommends you allow about 400 kms for country or light traffic conditions and about 300 kms for city (stop/starts) or short distance driving.

If you have any questions regarding this matter, please contact the Holden Recall and Rework Assistance Centre on-1800 632 826, where we will be pleased to assist.

Thank you for your patience and attention to this matter. Please accept our sincere apologies for any inconvenience this may cause you.
Yours sincerely
(Original letter signed)

My VX Commodore ran out of fuel driving home from work one day last year from this exact problem. I've never seen this recall notice though.

She goes in for her 50,000km service Wednesday so I'll have to mention it to them.
